Nottinghamshire have strengthened their bowling attack with the signing of India seam bowler Mukesh Kumar as they prepare for the final two matches of the County Championship season.
The 32-year-old arrives at Trent Bridge with Nottinghamshire firmly in contention for the Division One title.
The defending champions currently sit second in the table, four points behind leaders Somerset with only two fixtures left to play.
Kumar Brings 233 First-Class Wickets
Kumar joins the English county side with substantial first-class experience, having claimed 233 wickets during his career.
Until this move, the seamer had spent his entire professional career playing domestic cricket in India.
His arrival gives Nottinghamshire an experienced bowler who has already operated at international level.
Kumar has represented India in three Test matches, with his most recent appearance coming against England in 2024.
Fresh From Duleep Trophy Success
The seamer heads to England in strong competitive form after helping East Zone secure the Duleep Trophy title.
Kumar played a key role in East Zone’s victory over South Zone in the final, taking 3-62 as his side lifted the trophy for the first time in 14 years.
His immediate transition from the Indian domestic season to Nottinghamshire’s Championship campaign means he arrives with match fitness already established.
Moores Welcomes Experienced Addition
Nottinghamshire head coach Peter Moores described Kumar as a quality signing at an important stage of the campaign.
The coach also highlighted the value of bringing in a player who is already competing at a high level rather than one who needs time to regain match sharpness.
“It’s fantastic for us to get a player who’s match-ready and in full competitive mode ahead of two big games for the club,” Moores said on Nottinghamshire’s official website.
Kumar will now link up with Nottinghamshire as they look to defend their County Championship crown, with the club entering the closing stages of another closely contested Division One campaign.
