Nigeria Mourns as Veteran Journalist Lekan Alabi Dies Suddenly Leaving Oyo’s Political Circle in Shock

Nigeria has lost one of its respected media and public relations figures following the death of veteran journalist Chief Lekan Alabi.

The former press secretary to several Oyo State governors died on Saturday morning in Lagos at the age of 76.

Alabi was also the Abese Olubadan of Ibadanland, a traditional title that reflected his longstanding contributions to the cultural and civic life of Ibadan.

Death Confirmed by Olubadan’s Palace

News of his passing was confirmed in a statement released by Adeola Oloko, the media aide to the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Ladoja, in Ibadan.

The statement announced that the respected journalist had died earlier on Saturday, describing him as a veteran media professional who served multiple administrations in Oyo State as press secretary.

Burial to Follow Islamic Tradition

According to the announcement, Alabi will be laid to rest on Sunday in line with Islamic burial rites.

The palace did not disclose the cause of his death but confirmed that funeral arrangements would proceed in accordance with his religious beliefs.

Throughout his career, Lekan Alabi built a reputation as an accomplished journalist and communications expert.
