Wanted Drug Kingpin Apprehended by NDLEA Attempting to Ship Narcotics to the UK

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has successfully apprehended a wanted drug kingpin while he was in the process of attempting to dispatch illegal drug shipments to the United Kingdom.

This significant development was confirmed by the NDLEA through its spokesperson, Femi Babafemi, in a statement released in Abuja on Sunday.

Suspect’s Background and Recent Activities

The suspect, identified as Obiorah Chigozie, had been on the NDLEA’s wanted list since September 15.

Chigozie’s capture was a culmination of interdiction operations conducted by NDLEA operatives, leading to the seizure of approximately four tons of illicit substances in the past week.

Interception of UK-Bound Narcotics Shipment

The pivotal moment occurred when NDLEA officials intercepted a shipment weighing 1.500 kilograms of skunk, concealed within flour, destined for London, UK.

This interception took place at the Skyway Aviation Handling Company (SAHCO) export shed of the Murtala Mohammed International Airport (MMIA) in Ikeja, Lagos.

The suspect’s freight agent, identified as Nworah Adaugo Precious, was also taken into custody during this operation.

Chigozie’s Arrest and Confession

Chigozie’s apprehension transpired on September 28 when he personally delivered an additional consignment of 2.00 kilograms concealed in cartons to the airport for shipment to the UK.

During questioning, Chigozie disclosed that he had previously engaged in shoe sales in Lagos before venturing into the illicit drug trade.

Other Notable Drug Busts Across Nigeria

The NDLEA has been actively conducting operations across various regions of Nigeria, resulting in significant drug seizures and arrests.

In one instance, NDLEA officers in the Federal Capital Territory intercepted a container truck laden with 1,188 kilograms of skunk hidden beneath cartons of toothpaste.

In separate operations, NDLEA teams in Bayelsa, Kano, Enugu, Lagos, Kwara, Borno, Plateau, Cross River, and Kogi achieved notable successes in apprehending suspects and recovering substantial quantities of narcotics.

Inter-Agency Collaboration and Ongoing Efforts

The collaborative efforts between NDLEA and other law enforcement agencies have resulted in significant drug seizures and arrests.

These operations reflect the commitment of the NDLEA to combat drug trafficking and related criminal activities across Nigeria.

A Comprehensive Effort Against Narcotics

The NDLEA continues to demonstrate its dedication to tackling drug-related issues comprehensively.
