Luxurious Yachts Owned by Steve Jobs’ Widow and Mexican Telecom Mogul Collide Off the Coast of Naples Causing Significant Damage

A dramatic incident unfolded off the coast of Naples when two high-value yachts collided, resulting in significant damage.

The incident involved the 78-meter Venus, a $140 million yacht owned by Laurene Powell Jobs, the widow of Apple founder Steve Jobs, and the 105-meter Lady Moura, owned by Mexican telecom mogul Ricardo Salinas.

On July 22nd, the two luxurious vessels, which together are worth $265 million, were caught in a fierce gust of wind that caused them to crash into each other.

Both yachts were anchored when the accident occurred, but strong winds caused them to drift into one another. The high winds, reaching speeds of 55 knots, were clearly audible in the dramatic footage posted online.

According to sources, the Lady Moura had deployed more anchor chain than necessary, which contributed to the collision. Despite the anchors being down, the uneven lengths of the anchor lines led to the two yachts crashing into each other.

The crew of the Venus claims that it was the Lady Moura’s longer anchor line that caused the accident, while Salinas suggested it was the Venus approaching the larger yacht.

Reactions and Repairs

Salinas, in a post on social media, expressed frustration over the incident, joking about the cost of repairs while also using the opportunity to promote his company.

He criticized the Venus crew for not seeing the approaching Lady Moura and mentioned that the damage would be costly to repair. Salinas ended his post with a somewhat humorous tone, adding “ha, ha, ha,” indicating he was trying to move past the incident.

The Venus: A Legacy of Design

The Venus, designed by Philippe Starck and meticulously crafted to meet Steve Jobs’ exacting standards, features a minimalist design with high ceilings and uniform bedrooms. This sleek aluminum yacht embodies the attention to detail that Jobs was known for.
