INEC Assures of Glitch-Free Result Upload for Bayelsa, Imo, Kogi Elections
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has vowed that there will be no glitches in the upload of results for the Bayelsa, Imo, and Kogi governorship elections on the INEC Result Viewing Portal (IReV).
This is in contrast to the 2023 general elections where technical difficulties marred the result upload process.
Lessons Learned from 2023 General Elections
INEC’s Chief Press Secretary, Rotimi Oyekanmi, stated that the commission has learned from the challenges experienced during the 2023 general elections and has taken steps to ensure that they do not recur.
He said that the mock accreditation exercise conducted last week was successful and that the commission is confident that the IReV portal will function properly during the upcoming governorship elections.
Technology Downtime
Oyekanmi acknowledged that technology can sometimes throw up challenges, but he stressed that INEC is prepared to deal with any such eventualities.
He said that the commission has a team of technical experts on standby to address any issues that may arise.
Uploading vs. Transmission
Oyekanmi also clarified that INEC does not transmit results through the IReV portal.
Instead, he said that the commission uploads pictures of polling unit results to the portal.
This distinction is important because it means that the results are not being sent over the internet, which can be prone to disruptions.
Conclusion
INEC is confident that the IReV portal will function properly during the upcoming governorship elections.
The commission has learned from the challenges experienced during the 2023 general elections and has taken steps to ensure that they do not recur.
