Eritrea Cycling Championship starts today, 24 June, at the Asmara Martyrs Cemetery area

The individual time trial round of the Eritrea Road Cycling Championship 2022 gets underway today, June 24, in the vicinity of the Asmara Martyrs Cemetery.

Aklilu Arefaine, Samuel Haile, and Yoel Habteab finished first, second, and third, respectively, in the junior men’s 18-kilometer race.

Arsema Woldemicael also won in the junior females’ 9-kilometer division, finishing ahead of Niat Teklehaimanot of the Denden Club and Fithawit Teklu of the Arag Club.

Danait Fitsum and Adiam Dawit from Denden Club won the Gold and Silver medals in the female elite and under-23 categories in the 18-kilometer race, while Milena Yafet took home the bronze.

The 36 km men’s elite and U-23 division was eagerly anticipated by cycling fans. Biniam Ghirmay, an Eritrean professional cyclist, completed the race in accordance with this in 43 minutes, 36 seconds, and 76 microseconds, making him the fastest rider from that nation in 2022.

Amanuel Gebrezgiabher came in third place, finishing the race 15 seconds after Biniam and 15 seconds after Merhawi Kudus.
