A legal case has begun in the UK involving allegations of serious sexual offences reported on the Brighton seafront.

A Syrian national, Bilal Alkadour, aged 35, has appeared in court after being accused of raping and sexually assaulting a woman in the early hours of May 3.

The matter, which has drawn public attention due to its location and severity, is now progressing through the Crown Court system after initial proceedings at magistrates’ level.

Alleged Incident Near a Busy Coastal Landmark

The allegations relate to an incident said to have taken place opposite the Grand Hotel, Brighton, close to Brighton Beach, around 2am.

A 21-year-old woman reported to police that she had been raped during the encounter, prompting a formal investigation.

Authorities say the report led officers from Sussex Police to begin inquiries immediately in the days following the complaint.

Arrest and Formal Charges Filed

Following several days of investigation, Alkadour—who is listed as having an address in Newark-on-Trent, Nottinghamshire—was arrested on May 14.

He was later charged with rape, two counts of sexual assault, and one count of assault by penetration involving a woman aged over 16.

The case first came before Brighton Magistrates’ Court on May 16, where he was remanded in custody pending further proceedings.

Appearance at Crown Court and Plea Entered

Alkadour has since appeared at Hove Crown Court dressed in a black puffer jacket and grey trousers.

Through an Arabic interpreter, he entered not guilty pleas to all charges.

The judge overseeing the case set a provisional trial date for November, meaning the legal process is expected to continue for several months before a verdict is reached.

Authorities Emphasise Support and Public Safety

Speaking after the court appearance, Chief Superintendent Adam Hays of Sussex Police said specialist officers are continuing to support the complainant throughout the investigation and upcoming court process.

He also acknowledged the impact of the case on public confidence, stating that increased patrols would remain in place along the seafront.

Police confirmed they are continuing to work with partner agencies to ensure safety and safeguard vulnerable individuals in the area as proceedings move forward.
