Bitcoin struggled to regain momentum on Monday, falling below $77,000 despite a sharp decline in global oil prices following indications that the United States favoured a diplomatic resolution to its conflict with Iran.
TradingView data showed that Bitcoin (BTC) dropped approximately 1.7% after briefly reaching $78,750 following the weekly close. The cryptocurrency subsequently fell below $77,000, extending its recent losses.
The decline came as West Texas Intermediate crude oil dropped more than 7%, briefly reaching $95.15 per barrel, its lowest level since October 15. Brent crude also fell by approximately 9%, trading near $103.30.
The oil market reaction followed comments from US Secretary of State Marco Rubio indicating that Washington preferred a diplomatic solution to the conflict.
Despite the easing in energy prices, Bitcoin failed to record a sustained recovery.
Failure to Break $78,500 Raises Further Downside Concerns
Bitcoin’s inability to move above $78,500 has drawn attention from technical analysts monitoring the possibility of another decline.
Crypto analyst Rekt Capital warned that the failed attempt to break through the resistance level could leave the cryptocurrency exposed to further selling pressure.
The latest price movement has increased attention on the $76,000 area, which analysts identify as an important level for Bitcoin’s near-term direction.
QCP Capital Identifies Critical Support Between $76,000 and $76,600
QCP Capital identified the $76,000–$76,600 range as a significant support zone for Bitcoin.
The firm noted that the area had previously triggered upward price reversals on four occasions since September.
A sustained move below this range could expose Bitcoin to further technical support levels, beginning with the 50-week moving average near $75,700.
The 200-day moving average, positioned around $73,100, represents another level analysts are monitoring if selling pressure continues.
Recovery Above $79,500 Could Restore Previous Trading Range
A sustained move above $79,500 could help Bitcoin recover a trading range it had previously lost.
However, the cryptocurrency’s latest failure to maintain its upward movement has left traders watching whether buyers can defend the $76,000 support area.
A break below that level could increase the possibility of a move towards the lower technical indicators identified by analysts.
US Elections and Technology Earnings Add to Market Uncertainty
Broader financial market uncertainty has also influenced investor activity ahead of the US midterm elections.
Concerns about technology companies’ spending on artificial intelligence have weighed on equities, with recent corporate earnings and forward guidance raising questions about the profitability of large AI investments.
Gold recorded gains during the same period, rising approximately 2% and moving back above $3,950 per ounce.
The precious metal had previously fallen to a 13-month low of $3,891.
The contrasting movements in Bitcoin, oil and gold reflect differing market reactions as investors assess geopolitical developments, company earnings and the possible implications for interest rates and risk-sensitive assets.
Bitcoin’s next price movement will depend on whether buyers maintain support around $76,000 or further selling pushes the cryptocurrency towards lower technical levels.
