Adam Ramsay-Peaty has revealed that his greatest priority over the coming months is embracing family life as he and his pregnant wife, Holly, prepare to welcome their first daughter together.
The decorated British swimmer said he is looking forward to immersing himself in his roles as both a husband and father, describing their unborn baby girl as “an incredible gift” and “an incredible blessing.”
The couple, who married a year ago, announced last month that they are expecting their daughter in December.
Despite the demands of elite sport, Ramsay-Peaty said he has no desire to allow his identity to be defined solely by swimming, insisting that family life is equally important as he plans for the next stage of his career.
Balancing Parenthood With Olympic Preparation
Speaking after the Commonwealth Games, the 31-year-old acknowledged that becoming a parent will inevitably bring sleepless nights and new responsibilities, but expressed confidence that he and Holly would successfully navigate the challenge.
Ramsay-Peaty praised his wife’s unwavering support and highlighted the strength of the family network surrounding them, saying those close to them would help make the transition into parenthood smoother.
With the Los Angeles Olympic Games approaching in two years, he admitted there will be a learning curve as they discover how to combine elite-level training with raising a young child.
Nevertheless, he believes investing time, love and energy into family life is just as valuable as striving for sporting success.
Medal Success Without the Ultimate Prize
Although Ramsay-Peaty returned home with three medals from the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, the competition ended without the gold medal many had expected him to win.
His campaign concluded with England securing silver in the men’s 4x100m medley relay alongside teammates Oliver Morgan, Edward Mildred and Jacob Mills. Holly watched proudly from the stands as her husband helped the team secure second place.
Earlier in the competition, Ramsay-Peaty also collected bronze in the 50m breaststroke after South Africa’s Michael Houlie claimed victory, while another bronze came in the 100m breaststroke, marking a difficult tournament for one of Britain’s most successful swimmers.
Swimmer Reflects on Personal and Sporting Challenges
Following his performances, Ramsay-Peaty admitted he has struggled to rediscover the speed that once made him virtually unbeatable in breaststroke events.
Reflecting on the past two years, he described the period as one of rebuilding, explaining that pushing harder had not always translated into better results.
He acknowledged there had been numerous highs and lows throughout his career and confessed he had temporarily lost both his direction and motivation before working to rediscover his enjoyment of training.
The swimmer also revealed that he had felt unusually unsettled throughout the week in Glasgow, admitting he could not fully explain why and suggesting that ongoing changes to his preparation were still being assessed.
Family Rift Continues to Cast a Shadow
Ramsay-Peaty’s emotional reflections came against the backdrop of an ongoing estrangement from his parents, a dispute that has remained public since 2024.
After one of his races, the Olympic champion suggested that the personal difficulties he has experienced away from the pool had affected him emotionally, saying the situation had taken its toll during a period in which he had worked extremely hard to return to top form.
The Commonwealth Games marked the first major international competition in which his parents were absent from poolside, breaking a tradition that had lasted throughout much of his swimming career.

Hours before Ramsay-Peaty’s final race, his mother, Caroline Peaty, issued a heartfelt public message declaring that she would always love and support her son from afar.
She stressed that she and her husband, Mark, had devoted years to helping their son achieve his dreams without expecting recognition or financial reward, describing their sacrifices as those any loving parents would willingly make.
Caroline also revealed that members of the family had been subjected to sustained abuse on social media since details of the rift became public, describing many of the comments as cruel, false and deeply hurtful.

In her statement, Caroline urged the public to allow the family space to move forward, explaining that months of online criticism had become emotionally exhausting.
She said her focus is now on enjoying time with her growing family, noting that she is expecting two more grandchildren in the coming months.
Alongside Adam and Holly’s baby due in December, her daughter Bethany is also expecting a child in January.
Caroline shared a message about forgiveness and truth, suggesting she had chosen to let go of past grievances while making clear that forgiveness does not necessarily restore trust.
Relationship Breakdown Dates Back Two Years
The division within the Peaty family reportedly began in 2024 when Adam and Holly chose not to invite several relatives to their engagement celebration or wedding.
Caroline was also absent from Holly’s hen celebration, and the strained relationship has remained unresolved since then.
Months later, Ramsay-Peaty addressed speculation surrounding the dispute by stating publicly that there are “two sides to every story,” while declining to discuss the matter in greater detail.
