The U.S. Treasury has announced the release of commemorative U.S. dollar bills featuring President Donald Trump’s signature as part of celebrations marking the nation’s 250th anniversary.
Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent confirmed the initiative on Saturday by sharing a social media post from President Trump that displayed an image of a $100 bill bearing the president’s signature.
Treasury Says New Design Honors Historic Milestone
In announcing the commemorative currency, Bessent described the new bills as a fitting tribute to both the country’s semiquincentennial celebrations and President Trump.
He said the special edition notes recognize what he called the historic achievements of the United States and the current administration, adding that issuing the currency during the nation’s 250th birthday celebrations was appropriate.
The announcement comes as events commemorating America’s founding continue across the country.
Departure From Traditional Currency Design
The commemorative bills represent a notable departure from longstanding U.S. currency practice.
Ordinarily, paper money issued by the United States carries the signatures of the Treasury secretary and the U.S. treasurer rather than the sitting president.
The decision to feature Trump’s signature marks an unusual design choice associated with the anniversary commemorations.
Trump Continues Expanding His Presence Across Federal Institutions
The commemorative currency is the latest example of President Trump’s efforts to leave a visible mark on federal institutions and public landmarks during his second term.
Since returning to office, the administration has attached Trump’s name to several organizations and facilities, reflecting a broader effort to reshape aspects of the federal landscape.
Administration Pursues High-Profile Naming Changes
Among the changes introduced by the administration was adding Trump’s name to the U.S. Institute of Peace and to the board of the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts after he assumed control of the institution early in his second term.
However, a judge later ordered Trump’s name to be removed from the Kennedy Center.
Separately, Palm Beach International Airport in Florida is also being renamed in honor of the president.
Anniversary Celebrations Continue Across the United States
The commemorative dollar bills form part of broader events celebrating the United States’ 250th anniversary, which has included ceremonies, public events and presidential appearances highlighting the country’s history.
The Treasury has presented the specially signed currency as a symbolic addition to those celebrations, linking the nation’s milestone anniversary with the current administration’s commemorative initiatives.
