Paul Pelosi, the husband of former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, could face a misdemeanor charge after authorities said he was involved in an alleged hit-and-run collision in California’s Napa County.

According to the Napa County Sheriff’s Office, the incident occurred Friday in the town of Yountville, where Pelosi was driving a brown convertible when it struck a legally parked vehicle. No injuries were reported.

Authorities Say Driver Left Scene After Collision

Investigators said the crash caused significant damage to the parked vehicle before Pelosi briefly stopped and then continued driving away from the scene.

A witness who observed the collision contacted emergency services, prompting sheriff’s deputies to begin searching for the vehicle involved.

Officers later located Pelosi approximately a quarter of a mile from the crash site, where they found his convertible with substantial front-end damage.

Pelosi Told Deputies He Was Unsure What He Had Hit

According to law enforcement, Pelosi acknowledged to responding deputies that he believed he had struck something while driving but said he was uncertain what had caused the damage to his vehicle or exactly when the collision had occurred.

Authorities reported that alcohol was not detected in his system at the time of the incident.

Sheriff’s Office Recommends Misdemeanor Charge

Because no one was injured during the crash, investigators did not arrest Pelosi at the scene.

Instead, the Napa County Sheriff’s Office said it is recommending that prosecutors pursue a misdemeanor charge alleging he left the scene of a traffic accident.

The case will now be reviewed through the appropriate legal process.

DMV Review Initiated Over Driving Ability

In addition to the recommended criminal charge, authorities referred Pelosi to the California Department of Motor Vehicles for an assessment of his driving fitness.

Officials noted that such referrals are routinely made involving elderly drivers to determine whether they remain capable of safely operating a motor vehicle.

Previous DUI Conviction Remains Part of Driving Record

The latest incident comes several years after Pelosi pleaded guilty to misdemeanor driving under the influence charges stemming from a separate crash in Napa County in 2022.

He received a sentence that included jail time, probation, mandatory participation in a drinking-driver education program, installation of an ignition interlock device, financial penalties and victim restitution.

Family Previously Endured Violent Home Attack

Later in 2022, Paul Pelosi was seriously injured after an intruder broke into the couple’s San Francisco residence and attacked him with a hammer.

The assault attracted national attention and resulted in criminal proceedings against the suspect.

No Public Comment From Pelosi’s Office

As of Saturday, no public response had been issued on behalf of former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi regarding the latest traffic incident.

Authorities have indicated that the investigation remains ongoing as prosecutors consider the recommended misdemeanor charge.
