Ukraine says a sustained wave of Russian missile, drone and aerial bomb attacks over the past week has caused casualties and extensive damage across several regions, with critical energy infrastructure and residential areas among the targets.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said he received updates from senior Ukrainian officials on the consequences of strikes affecting Odesa, Kharkiv, Pavlohrad and other parts of the country.
Odesa Hit as Energy Infrastructure Comes Under Attack
In Odesa and the surrounding region, emergency and repair crews have been working to restore electricity following what Ukrainian authorities described as a major Russian assault on energy infrastructure.
Zelenskyy said residential buildings and the port were also damaged during the overnight attack. He argued that strikes affecting port infrastructure have implications beyond Ukraine, particularly because Odesa plays an important role in the country’s agricultural exports and global food supply chains.
At least eight people were reported injured in Odesa and the surrounding area, with medical and emergency services providing assistance.
Deadly Drone Strike Damages Kharkiv Apartment Building
Kharkiv suffered another deadly attack when a drone struck a residential high-rise, destroying four floors of the building.
According to Zelenskyy’s account, dozens of people were wounded and two people were killed in the attack. The Ukrainian president expressed condolences to the families of those who lost their lives.
The incident added to the continuing toll on civilians in Kharkiv, a major Ukrainian city that has repeatedly come under Russian aerial attacks since the full-scale war began.
Pavlohrad Attack Injures Children
In Pavlohrad, officials reported another strike near a shopping center as well as damage to energy infrastructure.
Nine people were injured in the city, including four children, according to Zelenskyy. The attack prompted further emergency response efforts as authorities assessed damage to civilian and critical infrastructure.
Multiple Regions Targeted
The attacks were not confined to Odesa, Kharkiv and Pavlohrad. Ukrainian authorities reported strikes across the Zhytomyr, Mykolaiv, Kyiv, Kherson, Sumy, Dnipropetrovsk, Zaporizhzhia and Donetsk regions.
The geographic spread of the attacks was cited by Zelenskyy as evidence of what he characterized as a nationwide Russian aerial campaign rather than isolated strikes against individual communities.
Ukraine Reports More Than 1,500 Attack Drones
Zelenskyy said Russia launched 61 missiles of various types against Ukraine during the week, including 56 missiles traveling along ballistic trajectories.
Ukraine also recorded more than 1,560 attack drones and approximately 1,540 aerial bombs during the same period, according to the president.
The figures underscore the scale of the aerial campaign Ukraine says it has faced as Russian forces continue using missiles, drones and bombs against targets across the country.
Zelenskyy Calls for More Sanctions and Air Defenses
Zelenskyy said the continuing attacks demonstrate the need for additional international pressure on Moscow, including stronger sanctions and increased deliveries of air-defense systems to Ukraine.
He thanked countries and organizations supporting Ukraine while emphasizing that protecting civilians and critical infrastructure remains an urgent priority as Russian attacks continue.
