England batter Tammy Beaumont has announced that she will retire from international cricket following England’s upcoming Test match against India, bringing an end to a distinguished career that has spanned nearly 17 years.
The one-off Test, which begins on Friday at Lord’s, will serve as Beaumont’s final appearance for England. The fixture also marks a historic milestone as the first women’s Test match ever staged at the iconic London venue.
A Career Defined by Consistency and Records
Beaumont made her England debut in 2009 and has since become one of the country’s most accomplished batters across all formats of the game.
During her international career, she represented England in 11 Test matches, 140 One-Day Internationals (ODIs) and 109 Twenty20 Internationals.
Among her achievements, Beaumont holds the England women’s record for the most ODI centuries with 12. She is also one of only two England women, alongside former captain Heather Knight, to have scored an international century in all three formats of the game.
Beaumont Reflects on Nearly Two Decades Representing England
Announcing her decision, Beaumont described wearing the England shirt as the greatest privilege of her sporting life.
She said representing her country for almost 17 years had been an incredible honour and reflected on how much women’s cricket has evolved since she first discovered the sport as a young girl.
Beaumont noted that when she first fell in love with cricket, she hardly considered playing for England to be a realistic opportunity. She added that seeing more girls and boys inspired by the game today is one of the most rewarding aspects of her career.
Passing the Torch to the Next Generation
The veteran batter said she believes the time is right to make way for a new generation of England players.
According to Beaumont, England’s players have always aimed to leave the team in a stronger position for those who follow, and she feels the upcoming Lord’s Test provides the ideal stage to conclude her international journey.
She described the opportunity to finish her England career in the first-ever women’s Test at Lord’s as a fitting ending to a career that exceeded all of her expectations.
Domestic Cricket Career Will Continue
Although Beaumont is stepping away from international duty, she confirmed that she has no plans to retire from cricket altogether.
She will continue playing in the domestic game, where she currently represents The Blaze and Birmingham Phoenix in The Hundred, allowing fans to continue watching one of England’s most accomplished batters in action.
