Nigerian Vice President’s Diplomatic Mission

Nigeria’s Vice President, Kashim Shettima, has embarked on a diplomatic mission to China to participate in the 3rd Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) Forum.

Shettima’s presence at this international gathering is significant as he represents Nigerian President Bola Tinubu.

Global Participation in the BRI Forum

The 3rd Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) Forum is set to host leaders from over 130 countries and is scheduled to take place from October 16 to 18.

This international forum aims to promote collaboration and prosperity through high-quality Belt and Road Cooperation, aligned with the theme “Together for Common Development and Prosperity.”

Nigeria’s Economic Promotion

One of Vice President Shettima’s primary objectives at the BRI Forum is to attract investors to support developmental projects in Nigeria.

The platform offered by the forum provides an excellent opportunity to engage with potential investors and bolster Nigeria’s trade and investment relations, aligning with President Tinubu’s economic development agenda.

A Decade of Belt and Road Initiative

The 2023 edition of the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) marks the 10th anniversary of this global infrastructure development strategy championed by China’s President, Xi Jinping.

Launched in 2013, the BRI seeks to foster international collaboration, enhance cooperation, and facilitate infrastructure investments in nearly 70 countries across Asia, Africa, and Europe, encompassing both land and maritime routes.

Nigeria’s Collaboration with the BRI

In 2018, former Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari signed a Belt and Road cooperation agreement with China.

This partnership aims to benefit Nigeria and other partner countries with vital infrastructure investments in various sectors, including ports, railroads, roads, bridges, airports, dams, and coal-fired power stations.

Diverse Delegation for the Forum

Vice President Shettima is accompanied by a distinguished delegation, including key government ministers and officials.

Their presence underscores Nigeria’s commitment to fostering international partnerships and investments.

Agricultural and Food Security Agenda

In line with the Tinubu administration’s commitment to food security and diversification, Vice President Shettima will continue his diplomatic mission by traveling to the United States.

In the US, he is scheduled to deliver a keynote address at the African Development Bank (AfDB) and World Food Prize event on October 24.

Shettima’s participation as a special guest at this event highlights Nigeria’s agricultural sector reforms and initiatives.

International Engagement and Investments

While in the United States, Vice President Shettima will engage with various stakeholders, partners, and investors, presenting opportunities for investment in Nigeria.

The visit aims to strengthen international relationships and promote Nigeria’s economic prospects.

A Fruitful Diplomatic Mission

Numerous meetings and engagements have been scheduled for Vice President Shettima during his overseas commitments.

After fulfilling his diplomatic duties in the United States, he is expected to return to Nigeria.

This diplomatic mission holds great significance for Nigeria, as it seeks to foster international collaborations and attract investments for its developmental projects and economic growth.
