A Scottish man has died after being shot multiple times on the Caribbean island of Canouan, prompting a homicide investigation by local police.

Daniel Vettrino, 37, originally from Dysart in Fife, was found with multiple gunshot wounds after officers responded to reports of gunfire in the Gym Hill area at around 11:30 p.m. on Wednesday. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Local media reported that Vettrino had returned from a day out before he was allegedly confronted and shot in a parking lot.

Police Launch Murder Investigation

The Royal St. Vincent and the Grenadines Police Force confirmed it is actively investigating the fatal shooting, which occurred on June 24, 2026.

According to police, officers arrived at the scene after receiving reports of gunfire and discovered Vettrino suffering from multiple gunshot wounds across his body. A district medical officer later confirmed his death.

Authorities have announced that a post-mortem examination will be carried out to determine the precise cause of death.

Investigators are urging anyone with information that could assist the inquiry to come forward as the investigation continues.

Arrests Reportedly Made Following the Shooting

Local reports indicate that two men have been arrested in connection with the fatal shooting, although police have not publicly released further details regarding the suspects or possible motives.

Family Pays Emotional Tribute to Beloved Brother

The news of Vettrino’s death has left relatives and friends devastated, with heartfelt tributes pouring in across social media.

His brother, Robson Vettrino Kolberg, described him as a deeply loved man whose kindness touched people wherever he lived.

He remembered his brother as someone who wanted success and happiness for everyone around him and said his larger-than-life personality, unique sense of humor, and unforgettable ability to entertain friends would never be forgotten.

Kolberg also revealed that the family is now working to bring Vettrino’s body home before arranging a public farewell, thanking everyone who has offered support during the difficult period.

In an emotional closing message, he wrote that he hoped his brother was “drinking a pint of Guinness with Elvis.”

Friends Remember a Kind and Gentle Man

Messages from friends painted a picture of a man widely admired for his warmth and generosity.

Laura Westwood described Vettrino as someone with an enormous heart who was always smiling, calling him a true gentleman who never deserved such a tragic ending.

Dave Alston recalled seeing Vettrino’s photograph displayed above the bar at a popular venue in Kirkcaldy under the nickname “King of Karaoke,” while Nicole Buckley simply remembered him as a genuinely good person whose death had come far too soon.

International Career Took Him Across Three Continents

Vettrino had built an international career in property and technical management before relocating to the Caribbean.

After spending nearly a decade working in Egypt between 2015 and 2024, he moved to Colombia in 2023, where he worked as an estate and property manager before joining Canouan Estate Resort and Villas in 2024 as a technical services manager.

His professional profile described him as an experienced management-level specialist responsible for overseeing luxury resort properties, supervising maintenance teams, coordinating contractors, and managing day-to-day resort operations while maintaining strong relationships with local suppliers.

Authorities Continue Search for Answers

Police have not disclosed a motive for the shooting and continue appealing for witnesses as detectives work to establish exactly what happened.

According to local reports, Vettrino’s death has raised the number of recorded homicides in St. Vincent and the Grenadines to 19 this year, underscoring ongoing concerns about violent crime in the island nation.
