Scot Pollard, Former NBA Player, Receives Donor Heart After Public Appeal for Transplant

NBA champion Scot Pollard underwent a successful heart transplant on Friday, a procedure necessitated by damage from a virus he contracted in 2021.

His wife, Dawn Pollard, shared the news on social media, thanking the donor and asking for continued support.

Public Appeal for Donor

Pollard made his search for a donor public last month, sharing the complications of finding a heart large enough to fit his 6-foot-11, 260-pound frame.

After being admitted to intensive care at Vanderbilt University Medical Center, he stayed there until the transplant.

A Grateful Recovery

Dawn Pollard shared intimate moments before the surgery, including shaving Scot’s head and beard.

She expressed deep gratitude for the successful surgery and the donor’s gift of life, highlighting the importance of continued prayers.

A Career in Basketball and Beyond

Drafted in 1997 after a successful college basketball career, Pollard played 11 years in the NBA for five teams.

Despite a season-ending injury in 2008, he contributed to the Celtics’ championship win.

After retiring, he explored broadcasting, acting, and appeared on “Survivor.”
