Russian authorities say a large-scale overnight drone assault launched by Ukraine resulted in the death of a six-month-old baby after a residential property in the Moscow region was struck.
According to officials, the infant died while being transported to hospital.
Two adults and another child were also injured in the incident and remain under medical care.
Russia Claims Hundreds of Drones Were Destroyed
Russia’s Defence Ministry announced on Tuesday that its air defence systems intercepted and destroyed 419 Ukrainian fixed-wing drones during overnight operations across multiple regions of the country.
Officials described the attack as one of the latest large-scale drone offensives carried out by Ukraine as the war continues into its fourth year.
Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin separately reported that 61 drones targeting the Russian capital had been intercepted between Monday evening and Tuesday morning.
Residential Area in Moscow Region Hit
Andrei Vorobyov, governor of the Moscow region, said one of the drones struck a private residence in the village of Yevgoryevsk, southwest of Moscow.
The impact caused casualties among the occupants, with emergency responders rushing the injured to hospital.
Authorities have not released further details about the extent of the damage to the property or whether additional homes were affected.
Ukraine Says Military Communications Facility Was Targeted
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky confirmed that Ukrainian forces had carried out strikes against the Dubna space communications centre in the Moscow region.
According to Zelensky, the installation serves as a satellite communications hub that supports Russian military reconnaissance operations and helps coordinate forces deployed in occupied parts of Ukraine.
He said the facility had also been targeted earlier in the week, marking the second reported attack on the site within days.
Kyiv Defends Long-Range Drone Campaign
Ukraine has increasingly expanded its long-range drone operations inside Russian territory, describing them as a proportionate response to Russia’s continued missile and drone attacks on Ukrainian cities.
Zelensky has referred to these deep strikes as “long-range sanctions,” arguing they are a legitimate form of retaliation against Moscow’s sustained bombardment of Ukraine.
In recent months, Ukrainian drones have reportedly reached military and industrial targets located hundreds of kilometres inside Russia, including areas near the Ural Mountains.
Escalating Air War Shows No Signs of Slowing
The latest operation follows another major wave of drone attacks last week, when Russian officials said their air defences destroyed 660 Ukrainian drones over a two-day period.
Separately, Ukrainian strikes were also blamed for triggering a fire at an oil refinery southeast of Moscow in recent days.
As both sides continue to expand the range and intensity of their aerial operations, drone warfare has become an increasingly significant feature of the conflict, with attacks now reaching deep into territory far from the traditional front lines.
