Prince Harry has used a public appearance in Birmingham to call for greater resilience across Britain while celebrating the impact of the Invictus Games, as reports continue to suggest Meghan Markle and their children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, could travel to the UK for a possible private reunion with King Charles.

The Duke of Sussex spent the day promoting the countdown to the Invictus Games Birmingham 2027, combining serious reflections on recovery and perseverance with a series of light-hearted sporting activities and television appearances.

Harry Calls for Greater National Resilience

Appearing on ITV’s This Morning, Harry said the United Kingdom should strengthen what he described as its “national resilience,” pointing to the experiences of wounded military veterans who have rebuilt their lives through the Invictus Games.

He explained that people often find strength by confronting adversity, saying the journey from trauma to resilience is something that resonates with many.

According to Harry, the lessons learned by injured service personnel extend beyond sport and offer inspiration to communities across Britain and internationally.

He said that resilience is needed now more than ever and expressed hope that the Invictus movement would continue encouraging those facing both physical and psychological challenges.

Invictus Games Remain a Personal Mission

Harry also spoke about the importance of the Invictus Games in his own life, describing Birmingham as a city with deep connections to many wounded British soldiers returning from military service, particularly those who served in Afghanistan.

He said visiting Birmingham carried emotional significance because many veterans regard the city as a place closely linked to their recovery.

Harry added that resilience exists within everyone and believes the Games help unlock that strength.

The Duke also revealed that Meghan, Archie and Lilibet are supportive of his work with wounded veterans, saying the family is proud of his efforts while adding that he is equally proud of them.

Meghan and Children Reportedly Expected in Britain

Although Meghan Markle had initially hoped to attend the Birmingham event, she remained overseas with Archie and Lilibet. Reports indicate the family has been vacationing in Europe but could travel to Britain later this week.

If the visit goes ahead, it could pave the way for a private meeting between Harry’s family and King Charles.

Discussions surrounding a possible reunion are reportedly continuing, though no official plans have been confirmed.

The Sussex children are not expected to participate in any public engagements should they arrive in the UK.

Security Concerns Continue to Shape Travel Plans

Meghan’s absence from the public event comes amid the long-running dispute over security arrangements during visits to Britain.

Harry has maintained that concerns over the level of police protection available to his family have influenced decisions about bringing Meghan and the children to the UK.

The issue has remained a central point of disagreement following his legal battle with the Home Office over taxpayer-funded security.

Warm Television Appearance With Alison Hammond

Harry’s interview with This Morning presenter Alison Hammond featured several humorous moments alongside discussions about the Invictus Games.

When Hammond remarked that Meghan and the children must be proud of him, Harry responded by saying they do not tell him every day but confirmed that the feeling is mutual.

“I love my family,” he added with a smile.

The conversation later turned playful after Hammond invited Harry to her Birmingham home for ackee and saltfish.

The Duke jokingly offered to help prepare for the visit by cleaning her toilet, prompting laughter from those present.

Sporting Challenges Bring Laughter

The Birmingham event showcased Harry’s competitive side as he participated in several sporting demonstrations designed to promote next year’s Invictus Games.

He joined games of pickleball, laser tag and wheelchair rugby while also taking part in a running race alongside Alison Hammond and broadcaster JJ Chalmers.

One memorable moment came during a pickleball match when Harry pretended to shake an opponent’s hand before pulling away at the last second, drawing laughter from spectators.

During wheelchair rugby, he enthusiastically collided with fellow competitors and even delivered an overhead blind pass that helped set up a successful score.

Slip of the Tongue Sparks Good-Natured Apology

During his television appearance, Harry briefly referred to football as “soccer” before immediately correcting himself.

After Hammond suggested they watch England’s Women’s World Cup match together, Harry replied by mentioning “soccer” before quickly apologising and switching to the British term “football.”

The exchange drew smiles from Hammond, who teased the Duke about his years living in the United States.

Harry also revealed that his children enjoy watching Junior Bake Off, prompting another warm exchange between the pair.

Hospital Visit Continues UK Engagements

Before arriving in Birmingham for the Invictus celebrations, Harry visited Birmingham Children’s Hospital to mark the 20th anniversary of the WellChild Nurse programme.

Having served as patron of WellChild for nearly two decades, he met specialist nurses, young patients and their families while recognising the role nurses play in helping seriously ill children receive care at home.

During the visit, Harry thanked medical staff for their dedication and shared a personal story about Prince Archie, revealing that his son has become an enthusiastic Lego builder.

Busy Royal Schedules Continue

Harry’s Birmingham appearances form part of a five-day UK visit focused on preparations for the Invictus Games Birmingham 2027.

Alongside promotional events and meetings with the Invictus Games Foundation, discussions have also taken place regarding the upcoming Invictus Spirit Awards planned for London later this year.

Meanwhile, other members of the Royal Family have continued separate public engagements, with Prince William carrying out official visits elsewhere in England as the royal calendar remains busy during the summer period.
