The construction in Mangaratiba, situated approximately 130 kilometers (80 miles) from Rio de Janeiro, was halted by authorities in the country’s capital after alleged violations were discovered.

Construction without Environmental Authorization

According to a statement from the mayor’s office, the construction project on Neymar’s lavish mansion was being carried out without the necessary environmental authorization.

The authorities responded to complaints received on social media and subsequently conducted an investigation, uncovering several environmental infractions.

Illegal Appropriation of Resources

The investigation revealed that Neymar’s construction project involved the illegal appropriation of river water and the diversion of a canal.

Additionally, beach sand was being used without a permit, and there were instances of unauthorized excavation and transfer of dirt, stones, and rocks.

Anticipated Fine and Inspection Incident

In light of the irregularities discovered, the mayor’s office stated that an assessment of the violations would be conducted, leading to the issuance of a fine.

Based on the estimated environmental damage caused, the fine is expected to exceed five million reais (approximately $1 million).

Neymar’s father, Neymar da Silva Santos, was present during the inspection at the construction site and engaged in arguments with inspectors.

Neymar’s Mansion and Recent Injury

Neymar acquired the mansion in 2016, which spans 10,000 square meters (2.5 acres) and boasts amenities such as a helipad, spa, and gym.

However, the football star has faced setbacks in his career, with his last appearance on the field occurring in February 2023 due to a right ankle injury.

As a result of the injury, he underwent surgery in Doha, Qatar, in March.

Uncertain Future at PSG

Apart from the ongoing environmental controversy, Neymar’s future at Paris Saint Germain (PSG) remains uncertain.
