Poundland Expands Grocery Selection to Over 570 Stores, Including Chilled and Frozen Food, Beers, Wines, and Spirits

…By Alan Peterson for TDPel Media. Poundland, the discount retailer, has revealed its plans to accelerate the rollout of its grocery selection, which will now include chilled, frozen, fresh fruits and vegetables, as well as beers, wines, and spirits, in a larger number of stores.


In time for the summer season, an additional 24 stores across the United Kingdom, from Troon in Scotland to Falmouth in the south of England, will introduce frozen and chilled food options.

This expansion brings the total number of stores offering these ranges to over 570.

Broader Selection of Beers, Wines, and Spirits

Poundland is also extending its range of alcoholic beverages to more stores.


Following the successful introduction of popular drink options in 16 stores, the company plans to add these products to approximately 40 more locations by autumn.

Enhanced Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Offerings

In its pursuit of becoming a one-stop shop, Poundland is expanding its selection of fresh fruits and vegetables to additional stores.

Currently available in over 400 stores, items such as bananas, apples, carrots, and soft fruit will be introduced to another 50 stores in July.

Diversifying Product Range

The expansion of grocery options complements Poundland’s recent addition of clothing and homeware to all of its stores over the past two years, as the company aims to provide customers with a wider range of essential items.

Commitment to Customer Convenience

Darren Kay, Poundland’s retail director, expressed the company’s commitment to continuously improving their offerings, stating, “We’re quietly widening what we offer customers, day-by-day and store-by-store, because we know customers appreciate the convenience of shopping with Poundland for much more of what they need week-in, week-out.

Expanding Store Footprint

Poundland is on track to add over half a million square feet of new retail space during this financial year through store openings and relocations.

In the current year, the company has already opened and relocated 33 stores and anticipates opening over 50 more by the end of September, further expanding its presence and accessibility for customers.
