Newcastle United defender Amar Dedic was stopped by police after being reported carrying a bow and arrows at a beauty spot in Northumberland.
The 24-year-old Bosnia-Herzegovina international was with a friend when officers stopped their vehicle following concerns raised by a member of the public.
The incident happened on Wednesday after the two men were reportedly seen walking along a track beside a reservoir on Military Road in the Harlow Hill area.
Northumbria Police confirmed that officers later stopped a vehicle in the Darras Hall area and seized the bow and arrows.
Police Confirm No Threat to Public
According to reports, six police vehicles, including armed officers, were dispatched following the initial sighting. Dedic and his companion were reportedly stopped approximately seven miles from the location where they had first been spotted.
Police searched the vehicle and confiscated the equipment before establishing that the two men did not pose a threat to the public.
In a statement, Northumbria Police said: “Officers attended and subsequently stopped a vehicle in the Darras Hall area and seized a bow and arrows.
“At this stage, it is understood they were for recreational use and there was no threat to the public.”
The force confirmed that enquiries into the incident were continuing but did not identify Dedic as one of the individuals involved.
Dedic Cooperates With Police
BBC Sport has been told that Dedic had no harmful intentions and fully cooperated with officers during the incident.
Newcastle goalkeeper Mark Gillespie, 34, and former Magpies defender Paul Dummett, 35, were also reportedly present while police were speaking to the defender.
The pair are understood to have been in the area by coincidence and stopped to offer assistance.
Newcastle United have not issued a public statement about the incident.
Incident Comes Days After Newcastle Defeat
Dedic’s encounter with police took place two days after Newcastle suffered a 1-0 home defeat against Everton in the Premier League.
The defender joined the Magpies from Benfica in August for a reported fee of approximately £30 million.
He has made 10 appearances across league and cup competitions since arriving at St James’ Park.
Newcastle currently occupy 13th position in the Premier League table, having collected 11 points from their opening nine matches.
Dedic Named in Bosnia-Herzegovina Squad
Despite the incident, Dedic remains included in Bosnia-Herzegovina’s squad for the upcoming Nations League fixtures.
The national team is scheduled to face Sweden away from home on 14 November before hosting Romania on 17 November.
Newcastle’s next fixture is an away match against Fulham on Saturday, with kick-off scheduled for 15:00 GMT, before the November international break.
