The Nasarawa State Police Command has arrested five suspects during ongoing clearance operations across mountainous areas of Nasarawa Eggon Local Government Area.

The operations are aimed at flushing out suspected criminals, dismantling hideouts and improving security for residents across the state.

Police Public Relations Officer Ramhan Nansel disclosed the arrests in a statement issued on Tuesday in Lafia, the state capital.

Operation Covers Four Mountainous Locations

According to the statement, personnel drawn from the Police Mobile Force, Counter-Terrorism Unit, conventional police and tactical teams participated in the exercise.

The operation covered Tudun Hawa Uku, Kurmin Gogo, Rafin Ayaba and neighbouring areas, including trails running through the designated operational corridor.

Nansel said officers arrested five suspects during the exercise and recovered substances suspected to be hard drugs, including ice, alongside related paraphernalia.

Investigation Underway as Suspects Remain in Custody

The five suspects are currently being held in police custody as investigations continue.

Police said the investigation would establish the suspects’ possible involvement in criminal activities and determine whether they had links to other individuals or groups.

The command added that the clearance operation remained ongoing, with officers expanding their coverage to additional identified routes and suspected criminal hideouts.

Police Commissioner Orders Expansion of Clearance Exercise

The Commissioner of Police in Nasarawa State, Shetima Mohammed, has directed personnel to maintain the pace of the operation and extend the exercise beyond the affected mountainous areas.

According to the statement, Mohammed instructed officers to move towards Mada Station and adjoining locations to identify and remove suspected criminal elements operating within the area.

The commissioner also reaffirmed the command’s commitment to protecting lives and property throughout the state.

Residents Urged to Provide Security Information

The police command appealed to members of the public to support security agencies by providing timely and credible information that could assist ongoing operations.

The command said cooperation from residents would help officers identify suspected criminal hideouts and improve efforts to address security concerns in the affected communities.
