Marc Fogel, an American teacher detained in Russia for over three years, has finally returned to the U.S.
His family, deeply rooted in faith, credits their devotion to the Holy Rosary for helping them endure the painful years of uncertainty.
Family’s Daily Rosary Ritual
Marc’s mother, Malphine Fogel, 95, spoke about the powerful prayer tradition that kept the family connected during their difficult ordeal.
We tried to coordinate it so we could pray at the same time,” Malphine explained in an interview with EWTN News Nightly’s Tracy Sabol. “At 9:30 p.m., we always prayed the Rosary together, and I believe that helped all of us, especially Marc.”
This shared act of faith, she said, brought strength and comfort in times when it felt like everything else was beyond their control.
Marc’s Faith During Detention
Throughout his imprisonment, Marc Fogel remained committed to his Catholic faith.
According to his mother, he had access to a chapel, which he visited every day while being detained.
“Our faith really helped us through this entire ordeal,” Malphine shared. “And we thank God for that.”
Support for Marc’s Ongoing Healing
Although Marc has been released, the journey isn’t over.
His family’s lawyer, Sasha Phillips, emphasized that Marc now faces a long rehabilitation process ahead.
She appealed for continued prayers and support, asking viewers of EWTN to keep Marc in their thoughts.
“We need to tell him that he is loved and that God is on his side,” she added.
Details of Marc’s Release
The announcement of Marc Fogel’s release came from National Security Advisor Mike Waltz on Tuesday.
He shared that a prisoner exchange had been negotiated by President Donald Trump, Special Envoy Steve Witkoff, and the president’s advisors to secure Fogel’s return home.
Fogel’s family, supported by their deep faith and prayer, now faces the next chapter of healing and rebuilding their lives together.
