US Vice President JD Vance has blamed the Iran war for the Republican Party’s heavy losses in the midterm elections, arguing that the conflict played a decisive role in the results.

Vance made the comments in a social media post exceeding 3,300 words, published shortly before he arrived at the White House for private discussions with President Donald Trump.

In the lengthy statement, he examined the election outcome, the direction of the MAGA movement and the challenges facing Republicans following their defeats.

“The reason we lost is the war. The president himself said so last night,” Vance wrote.

He challenged supporters of the conflict to defend the political consequences of continuing it, including the loss of control of the Senate for the next six years.

“If you’d like to argue it was worth it, that losing the Senate for the next 6 years was worth it, then do so. Argue it was a worthwhile cost to pay. Agree or disagree, that’s at least honest,” he said.

Vance Says Trump Voters Want Focus on Cost of Living

The vice president referred to findings from some of his trusted pollsters to explain what Republican voters communicated through their votes.

According to Vance, supporters of Trump continued to turn out at the ballot box but wanted the administration and the Republican Party to change their priorities.

He said voters wanted the Iran war brought to an end, while also demanding greater attention to the cost of living and inflation.

Vance added that the message from Trump’s supporters was centred on putting “America first”.

His comments highlighted the economic and foreign policy concerns he believes Republicans must address following the midterm election results.

Vice President Rejects Amnesty for Undocumented Immigrants

Vance also addressed immigration enforcement, maintaining his opposition to granting amnesty to people living illegally in the United States.

Although he has been a strong supporter of Trump’s deportation policies, the vice president indicated that he was open to changes in how immigration laws are enforced.

He suggested that authorities could place greater emphasis on businesses employing undocumented workers as one possible adjustment to the current approach.

“I’m open to the idea that we should change enforcement—by focusing more on businesses that hire illegal labor, for instance. But anyone pushing amnesty is lying to you,” Vance said.

He also criticised what he described as inevitable attempts by political experts to mislead the public about the issue.

Vance Calls for Honest Assessment of Republican Setbacks

Throughout his post, Vance questioned how Republicans should interpret the election results and what the defeats mean for the future of the MAGA movement.

His remarks placed the Iran war at the centre of his explanation for the party’s losses, while also pointing to voters’ concerns about inflation and household expenses.

The statement came as he prepared to meet Trump privately at the White House following the midterm elections.

Vance’s comments outlined his position on the political consequences of the war, the party’s priorities and the future direction of its immigration enforcement policies.
