The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) announced that it has killed Sharif al-Hasanat, whom it identified as a company commander within Hamas operating in the central Gaza Strip.
According to the Israeli military, the operation was carried out after determining that al-Hasanat posed an immediate threat to Israeli forces deployed in the area.
Alleged Role in Hamas Infrastructure Efforts
Israeli officials said al-Hasanat was involved in efforts to rebuild Hamas’ underground infrastructure throughout the course of the conflict.
The IDF claimed that he played a significant role in restoring elements of the group’s tunnel network, which Israeli authorities have repeatedly targeted during military operations in Gaza.
Accused of Planning Attacks
In its statement, the military alleged that al-Hasanat had recently continued to support and advance attacks against Israeli troops and civilians.
The IDF described his activities as an active security threat and said the decision to carry out the strike was made to prevent future attacks and protect forces operating in the region.
Strike Conducted Amid Ongoing Conflict
The reported elimination comes as Israeli forces continue operations against Hamas targets across Gaza.
Israel has maintained that its campaign is aimed at dismantling the group’s military capabilities and preventing its reorganization, while clashes and military actions persist across several areas of the enclave.
Military Says Threat Has Been Removed
The IDF stated that al-Hasanat was targeted because he represented an immediate danger to Israeli personnel.
The military said the operation was intended to neutralize that threat and reaffirmed its commitment to continuing actions against individuals it identifies as involved in planning or carrying out attacks against Israel.
