Deputy Governor Accused of Orchestrating Protest in Ondo State

Allegations Against Deputy Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa

The Ondo Masses Solidarity Movement (MSM) accuses Deputy Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa of orchestrating an aborted protest in the state, claiming it was a move to disrupt the impeachment process.

PDP’s Sealed Secretariat Protest

Earlier, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ondo State had staged a protest due to the sealing of its secretariat.

This action came as a response to the continued absence of Governor Rotimi Akeredolu in the state following his return from a medical vacation abroad.

Security Operation at PDP Secretariat

Security forces, including the Nigeria Police Force, Department of State Security, and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, laid siege to the PDP secretariat around 6:30 a.m.

MSM Coordinator’s Claims

Ogunyemi Jeremiah, the Coordinator of the MSM, spoke about the protest, alleging that it was an attempt to incite a crisis in the state and obstruct the deputy governor’s impeachment process.

Aiyedatiwa’s Alleged Role

Jeremiah claimed that Deputy Governor Aiyedatiwa had been in contact with opposition parties and youth to mobilize protests against the governor.

He also alleged that Aiyedatiwa had financially supported some youths to participate in the protest.

Meeting and Sponsorship

According to Jeremiah, a meeting occurred at a hotel in Alagabaka, Akure, where funds were distributed among the participating youths.

Condemnation of the Deputy Governor’s Actions

The Ondo Masses Solidarity Movement strongly condemned the actions of the deputy governor, expressing concern about his intentions to destabilize the state.

Appreciation for Security Agencies

The MSM commended the efforts of the security agencies for preventing potential property damage and harm to individuals that could have resulted from the protest.

Interest of the Masses

The movement emphasized that the planned protest did not align with the interests of the masses, highlighting that they were already benefiting from government initiatives.

Appeal for Caution

The MSM called upon well-meaning Nigerians and the people of the state to caution the deputy governor against actions that could jeopardize the state’s peace and stability.

They emphasized the importance of learning from history to prevent such disruptions.

Denial of Protest’s Motivation

The movement maintained that the alleged protest was financially motivated and not in the best interest of the masses, vowing not to allow a group driven by money to disturb the state’s relative peace.
