GP Thomas Kwan, 53, Sentenced to 31 Years for Attempting to Murder His Mother’s Partner, Patrick O’Hara, by Poisoning Him with Fake Covid Vaccine in Newcastle

Thomas Kwan, a 53-year-old general practitioner, has been sentenced to 31 years in prison after attempting to murder his mother’s partner, Patrick O’Hara, by poisoning him with a fake Covid vaccine.

Disguised as a community nurse, Kwan injected O’Hara with a deadly pesticide, leading to a horrific ordeal that nearly cost the 72-year-old his life.

The Devious Plan

The chilling events unfolded in November 2023 when Kwan, seeing O’Hara as an obstacle to inheriting his mother Jenny Leung’s estate, devised a sinister plot to murder him.

O’Hara had the legal right to stay in Leung’s flat if she passed away before him, and Kwan viewed him as an impediment to his own financial gain.

To carry out his plan, Kwan used fake NHS documents to arrange a booster jab appointment for O’Hara, posing as a nurse named Raj Patel.

When he arrived at O’Hara’s home in Newcastle, Kwan was disguised with a hat, mask, and coat, convincing his mother’s partner that he was there to administer a vaccine.

However, the jab was laced with a harmful pesticide, and days later, O’Hara was hospitalized with a life-threatening infection.

A Horrifying Medical Nightmare

O’Hara’s health rapidly deteriorated after the injection. He was diagnosed with necrotizing fasciitis, a flesh-eating infection, in his left arm.

Surgeons had to perform several operations, including removing large sections of his arm and conducting two skin grafts to save him.

Recalling the agony in court, O’Hara described the excruciating pain he felt after the injection, saying he had never experienced anything like it in his life.

Despite his initial recovery, O’Hara’s condition worsened recently.

He suffered from extreme fatigue, weight loss, and hallucinations.

His hair fell out almost overnight, and his doctor believes the physical decline was a result of a delayed stress reaction.

“This incident should have been the end of me,” O’Hara stated, deeply shaken by the trauma.

“Had it not been for medical intervention, I’m sure I would have lost both my left arm and my life.”

A Motive Fueled by Greed

The prosecution revealed that Kwan had a deep obsession with money and wealth.

Despite his success as a GP, he had previously forged documents to claim a larger share of his father’s will.

Kwan also led an extravagant lifestyle, even making an offer on a £2 million property.

His strained relationship with his mother, who had named O’Hara in her will, seemed to be a significant factor in his desire to eliminate him.

The Startling Discovery

At first, authorities suspected Kwan had used ricin, a chemical weapon, in the attack.

However, experts later determined that the substance was more likely a pesticide.

O’Hara, a former environmental analyst, had been in good health until the fateful day he was tricked into receiving the poisoned jab.

Kwan initially denied attempting to kill O’Hara but changed his plea after hearing the prosecution’s case against him.

As he faces a lengthy sentence, the courtroom remains a witness to a shocking betrayal that will haunt O’Hara for the rest of his life.
