Former WP Rugby role player McKeever arrested and charged with fraud

McKeever was rumored to be interested in the vacant CEO position at the Western Province Rugby Union in the middle of last year.
McKeever positioned himself as an apparent driving force behind a potential cooperation between French Top 14 powers Stade Francais and WP, having previously held a similar position with the Southern Spears before they became the Southern Kings.
Despite the fact that McKeever was believed to have participated in some of these high-level meetings on behalf of the WPRFU, the talks between Stade Francais and the WPRFU eventually fell apart.
According to Rugby365.com, McKeever, “who punted himself as a kingmaker for suspended WPRFU President Zelt Marais”, has been arrested and charged with fraud.

“He made his court appearance today [Monday, 31 January] on a charge of fraud. Bail was granted,” commented colonel Andrè Traut, who is involved in media communication for the South African Police Service, Western Cape.

According to Rugby365.com, McKeever’s fraud charges are as a result of involvement in allegedly selling shares he did not own or control in the imploded London Listing of Umuthi Healthcare Solutions plc.
The case now sits with the National Prosecuting Authority of South Africa after a two-year investigation by the SAPS commercial crimes unit.
