The South African Weather Service (SAWS) has issued a Yellow Level 2 warning for severe thunderstorms in parts of the Eastern Cape on Monday.
The warning is scheduled to remain in effect from 08:00 until 20:59.
According to SAWS, a deepening surface trough combined with an upper trough could trigger thunderstorms across the eastern half of the province.
Some storms may become severe in north-eastern areas, bringing heavy rainfall, strong winds and hail that could cause damage.
Heavy Rain and Strong Winds Could Damage Property
SAWS has warned that severe thunderstorms could damage homes, other property and temporary structures in affected areas.
Heavy downpours may cause flooding on roads and low-lying bridges, potentially disrupting travel and making some routes difficult to cross.
Strong winds and hail could also damage agricultural crops and contribute to livestock losses.
The weather service has further warned of possible disruptions to electricity and communication services, as well as conditions that could pose a danger to life.
Residents Urged to Take Precautions
Residents have been advised to remain indoors during severe thunderstorms and avoid crossing flooded roads or bridges.
Motorists should exercise caution when driving in heavy rain, particularly in areas susceptible to flooding.
People living in vulnerable structures have been urged to take additional precautions as storms develop.
Farmers should consider moving livestock to safer locations where possible to reduce the risk of losses.
SAWS Advises Residents to Monitor Weather Updates
Residents across the affected parts of the Eastern Cape are encouraged to follow updates from the South African Weather Service throughout Monday.
The warning remains in place until 20:59, with severe thunderstorms potentially bringing heavy downpours, damaging winds and hail to parts of the province.
