David and Victoria Beckham turned heads at an extravagant royal event celebrating the bond between the United Kingdom and Italy.
The star-studded evening, held at King Charles’ private residence, Highgrove, welcomed notable guests from the worlds of fashion, film, and food.
A Glamorous Guest List at Highgrove
The Beckhams were surprise guests at the event, which featured legendary designer Donatella Versace and celebrated actor Stanley Tucci.
David Beckham, who previously played for AC Milan, has recently been named an ambassador for The King’s Foundation, a role that has seen him meet privately with the monarch.
The two have reportedly bonded over their shared love for the countryside and even beekeeping.
The royal gathering was arranged to mark the upcoming State Visits of King Charles and Queen Camilla to the Holy See and the Republic of Italy in April.
The evening also honored sustainable initiatives in both food and fashion, reinforcing the importance of mindful consumption.
A Celebration of Slow Food and Sustainable Fashion
The event spotlighted the concept of ‘Slow Food and Slow Fashion,’ emphasizing sustainability and ethical production.
The menu featured an exquisite combination of British ingredients prepared with an Italian touch.
Guests were treated to a reception in a beautifully adorned marquee, where they enjoyed a selection of canapés, including Tuscan-style pâté and Yorkshire Pecorino cheese puffs.
These were accompanied by sparkling wine from the King’s own Highgrove estate.
The dinner itself took place in the elegant Orchard Room and was a traditional Italian four-course feast, curated by renowned chef Francesco Mazzei.
Inspired by Stanley Tucci’s passion for Italian cuisine, the meal showcased the best of British produce infused with Italian culinary artistry.
Guests dined on Scottish Crab Panzanella, Westcombe Ricotta Ravioli, and a main course of Suffolk Red Porchetta, paired with carefully selected Italian wines.
Royal Support for Heritage and Craftsmanship
Their Majesties made a grand entrance later in the evening, joining guests at the reception.
Students and graduates from The King’s Foundation training programs presented their expertise in sustainable fashion, embroidery, millinery, and furniture making.
The King, a longtime advocate for heritage crafts, has worked tirelessly through his foundation to preserve and promote traditional skills.
Notable attendees included representatives of the Slow Food and Slow Fashion movements.
The King was seated next to the Italian ambassador and Felicity Blunt, the wife of Stanley Tucci, while Queen Camilla dined beside the The Devil Wears Prada actor himself.
Exquisite Tables and Handcrafted Details
The dinner tables were adorned with fresh, seasonal flowers, and the napkin rings were specially crafted by student milliners from the foundation’s courses.
Chef Francesco Mazzei expressed his excitement about cooking for the King, sharing that he personally traveled across the UK to source the best ingredients, including tomatoes from the Isle of Wight and cob nuts from Kent.
Mixologist Alessandro Palazzi added his own flair to the evening by creating specialty James Bond-inspired martinis for the King and Queen.
The cocktail, made with a blend of English vermouth, Polish vodka, and Gordon’s gin, was, of course, served shaken, not stirred.
A Meaningful Visit to Italy on the Horizon
The royal couple’s upcoming visit to Italy will be significant, as they join Pope Francis in celebrating the 2025 Jubilee Year, a momentous event for the Catholic Church.
They will also visit Rome and Ravenna, strengthening the longstanding ties between the UK and Italy.
The event at Highgrove capped off an incredibly busy period for the royal family.
In recent weeks, members of the family have carried out around 50 engagements across the UK and even internationally, marking one of their most active schedules in over a year.
Despite the challenges of King Charles and the Princess of Wales recently undergoing medical treatments, the evening stood as a testament to resilience, unity, and the continued commitment to cultural diplomacy.
