Cork have booked their place in the All-Ireland Senior Football Championship quarter-finals following a tightly contested 0-17 to 1-13 victory over Donegal in Ballybofey, where a disciplined second-half display proved decisive.
The Rebels weathered an early setback and held their nerve in a match that never fully opened up, eventually edging a Donegal side that struggled to find scores after the interval.
Donegal Start Bright but Fade After Half-Time
The hosts made the stronger opening statement and led 1-7 to 0-5 at half-time after a largely subdued first half from Cork.
Donegal’s goal came following a short kickout that initially found Daniel O’Mahony, only for him to be dispossessed under heavy pressure from Michael Murphy.
The turnover proved pivotal, as the ball quickly broke to the advancing number 14, who unselfishly squared it for Conor O’Donnell to finish clinically.
Despite that advantage, Donegal’s momentum evaporated in the second half, where they managed just six points and failed to register any two-point scores, leaving the door open for Cork’s recovery.
Cork Respond with Control and Key Scores
Cork gradually grew into the contest and produced a crucial response when they trailed 1-10 to 0-6, striking back with a two-point free that shifted the energy of the match.
A key moment came when substitute Conor Corbett made an immediate impact, scoring with his very first possession after entering the fray.
Cork’s structure and patience became increasingly evident as they controlled possession and limited Donegal’s attacking threats.
There was a late scare when a fisted effort clipped the post, but Donegal were unable to capitalise on the rebound or build any decisive momentum in the closing stages.
Quarter-Final Place Secured as Other Fixtures Continue
The result ensures Cork progress to the last eight, while elsewhere in the championship, Roscommon were leading Monaghan 0-4 to 0-2 in their Round 2B clash.
Attention also turned to Newbridge, where Kildare faced Kerry at 5.30pm, followed by Derry against Meath at 7pm in a busy evening of championship action.

Wicklow also progressed after Oisin McConville’s side edged Antrim 2-19 to 3-15 in a tense contest at Corrigan Park.
Down, meanwhile, held a strong advantage over Laois, leading 1-16 to 0-10 in a rematch of the 2024 final.
