Cassper Nyovest has found himself at the centre of a social media debate after publicly withdrawing his support for Rick Ross following domestic violence allegations made by Ross’s former girlfriend, Jazzma Kendrick.
Cassper said on September 27 that Ross had “lost a fan” in him and made clear that he could not support a man accused of assaulting women. His comments came after Kendrick shared photographs of injuries online and alleged that Ross had physically abused her.
The South African rapper’s position, however, quickly prompted some social media users to revisit his previous public support for Chris Brown.
Kendrick’s Allegations Sparked the Original Reaction
Kendrick publicly accused Ross of physical abuse and shared images that she said showed injuries sustained during the alleged incident.
She also spoke about leaving the relationship and warned other women against remaining with abusive partners.
Cassper responded publicly on X, saying his support for Ross had ended because of the allegations. When challenged by a follower who argued that Ross should be allowed to give his side of the story, Cassper maintained that there was no justification for physically assaulting a woman.
At the time, the allegations remained accusations and had not been established in court.
Social Media Users Bring Up Chris Brown
Rather than focusing exclusively on Cassper’s comments about Ross, some South African social media users turned the discussion toward the rapper’s previous support for Chris Brown.
Brown has faced high-profile allegations and legal controversies over the years, most notably the 2009 assault of Rihanna, for which he pleaded guilty to felony assault.
Critics therefore questioned whether Cassper’s position on alleged violence was applied consistently to artists he had previously supported.
One recurring argument on social media was that Cassper was applying different standards depending on the celebrity involved. Those comments represent the views of individual users rather than an established finding about Cassper’s motives.
Cassper Defends His Right to Speak Out
Despite the criticism, Cassper has indicated that he intends to continue using his public platform to express his views.

The controversy took another turn on October 1, when Ross surrendered to authorities in Miami Beach and was arrested on charges of felony battery by strangulation and misdemeanor battery, both classified as domestic-violence-related offenses.
According to the arrest affidavit reported by several news organisations, the alleged incident occurred on August 28. The woman who reported it told police that Ross allegedly struck her several times, restricted her breathing by grabbing her clothing around the neck and slammed her against a wall.
The affidavit also says the woman provided photographs of injuries to investigators.
Ross Pleads Not Guilty and Denies the Allegations
Ross has denied wrongdoing and pleaded not guilty.
His lawyers, Steve Sadow and Bradley Horenstein, said he was being “wrongfully accused” and questioned why the alleged incident was reported to police approximately one month after it was said to have occurred. They urged the public not to prejudge the case while the legal process continues.
Ross was released on bond following his arrest, and his arraignment is scheduled for October 22.
It is also important to distinguish the criminal case from Kendrick’s earlier social-media allegations. While several reports have noted similarities between the claims, authorities and news organisations have cautioned that it was not initially clear whether Kendrick was the same woman identified in the arrest affidavit.
Cassper’s Earlier Criticism of MacG and Sol Phenduka
The Ross controversy is not the first time Cassper has recently used his platform to criticise other public figures.
Weeks earlier, he condemned podcast personalities MacG and Sol Phenduka over remarks concerning the disappearance and death of runner Elizabeth “Tsontso” Moselakgomo.
That intervention added to the perception among some observers that Cassper has become increasingly willing to speak publicly on controversial issues involving other entertainers and public figures.
The Debate Is Now About More Than Rick Ross
Cassper’s original comments were directed at allegations against another artist, but the ensuing reaction has turned the episode into a wider discussion about consistency, accountability and celebrity influence.
