The cause of death of Breaking Bad actor RJ Mitte has reportedly been identified as hanging, according to an inquest report from Cameron County, Texas.
Mitte, who was 34, was found dead at his Texas residence on October 12.
According to documents cited by Page Six, the actor was pronounced dead at 1.32pm.
His representative had previously confirmed that Mitte died by suicide but did not provide details surrounding his death.
In a statement, the representative described him as a beloved actor, philanthropist and passionate advocate for disability rights, expressing profound sadness over his passing.
Mother Discovered His Body While Bringing Him Lunch
Mitte’s mother, Dyna, previously recounted how she found her son after becoming concerned when he failed to answer her morning phone call.
She explained that she called him at around 11am but did not initially become alarmed because he regularly slept until midday.
However, after collecting lunch and travelling to his home, she made the discovery.
Speaking to NBC News, Dyna recalled: “So I called him at 11.
He didn’t answer, so I picked up lunch and went to take it to him, and that’s when I discovered him.”
She also revealed that she had spent the preceding three months encouraging her son to seek professional mental health support.
According to Dyna, she repeatedly suggested therapy, but Mitte maintained that he could manage his difficulties without assistance.
Looking back, she said she wished she had insisted more forcefully that he attend therapy, even if it meant taking him against his wishes.
She described his decision to end his life as potentially having been made on impulse.
Family Had Concerns About His Mental Health
In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Dyna acknowledged that people close to Mitte had concerns about his emotional wellbeing before his death.
She explained that conversations involving herself, his professional team and friends had raised questions about how he was coping.
Dyna said she had encouraged him to speak with a counsellor or therapist about his feelings and how he viewed his circumstances.
Despite those efforts, Mitte had reportedly continued to reassure those around him that he was handling everything.
Bryan Cranston Pays Tribute to His Former Television Son
Mitte’s death prompted an emotional response from Bryan Cranston, who played his father, Walter White, in the AMC television series Breaking Bad.
In a tribute shared on Instagram, Cranston said he was devastated by the news and remembered meeting Mitte when he was just 14 years old.
The young actor played Walter White Jr from 2008 to 2013, appearing in 56 episodes of the series.
Cranston praised his former co-star’s determination, recalling how he approached the demanding filming schedule despite having cerebral palsy.
He also revealed that they had exchanged messages just weeks before Mitte’s death and had been discussing plans to meet for lunch.
Cranston expressed sadness that their planned meeting never happened, adding that he did not know whether it could have changed the outcome.
He said he loved Mitte and had treasured their time together both during the television series and in the years that followed.
Sister Describes Him as Her Brother and Father Figure
Mitte’s younger sister, Lacianne Carriere, also shared an emotional tribute, describing the actor as one of the most important people in her life.
In an Instagram post accompanied by photographs from their childhood, Carriere recalled how ordinary reminders of her brother had become painful since receiving news of his death.
She mentioned finding his strawberry Fanta still sitting on her coffee table when she received the call.
Carriere explained that Mitte had influenced almost every aspect of her personality, including her interests in music, films and video games.
She also credited him with teaching her to appreciate sentimental objects and preserve memories.
Describing their relationship, she said she had lost not only her brother but also a father figure who had helped shape the person she became.
Emotional Eulogy Reveals Their Close Family Bond
Carriere delivered a tearful eulogy at Mitte’s memorial service on October 16 in Brownsville, Texas.
During the service, she explained that her brother had taken on a parental role when their mother became paralysed following an accident shortly after Carriere’s birth.
Their mother was a single parent and had been left unable to walk for the first few years of her younger daughter’s life.
Carriere said Mitte stepped into the father figure role almost immediately, helping to support her as she grew up.
She told mourners that losing him meant losing both a brother and a father.
In her subsequent tribute, Carriere also reflected on the experiences they would never share, expressing uncertainty about how she would recover from losing someone who had played such a central role in her life.
She nevertheless promised to do her best to heal and carry his love with her.
Final Public Appearances Came Days Before His Death
Mitte’s last public appearances took place in the weeks leading up to his death.
On September 30, he attended the premiere of his film Talking to Strangers at the Fine Arts Theatre in Beverly Hills, where he posed for photographs on the red carpet.
Eight days before his death, he also attended a hot air balloon festival in New Mexico alongside his Breaking Bad co-star Luis Moncada.
Moncada later spoke about their final interactions in an emotional interview with TMZ.
He acknowledged that Mitte had been struggling and was being pulled in different directions, although he declined to provide further details out of respect for his late friend.
Actor Had Been Engaged to Girlfriend Kennedy Suarez
Mitte’s death came approximately a year after he announced his engagement to his girlfriend, Kennedy Suarez.
The actor proposed to Suarez during the 56th annual Dia del Sol benefit in Carlsbad, California, an event supporting United Cerebral Palsy of San Diego.
Mitte served as an ambassador for the organisation and had been actively involved in disability advocacy.
Speaking to People after the engagement, he expressed excitement about building a future with Suarez, describing her as his life partner and the person who inspired him to become better.
Suarez also celebrated the engagement on Instagram, describing her 30th birthday as a fairytale and expressing happiness about their future together.
The couple lived in Brownsville, Texas, where Mitte was also involved in running The Mitte Foundation, his family’s charity based in Austin.
Mitte Built a Career Through Acting and Disability Advocacy
Mitte became widely recognised for portraying Walter White Jr, the son of Bryan Cranston’s character, in Breaking Bad.
Diagnosed with cerebral palsy at the age of three, he went on to establish himself in the entertainment industry while advocating for greater opportunities for people with disabilities.
Beyond his work on the AMC series, his acting credits included The Recall and The Guardians of Justice (Will Save You!).
He also used his public platform to support actors and other entertainment professionals living with disabilities, while continuing his philanthropic work through various initiatives.
