Yumei Foods USA, Inc., based in City of Industry, California, is recalling approximately 9,370 pounds of Siluriformes items imported from Japan. The products were imported from the People’s Republic of China, which is not permitted to export processed Siluriformes products to the United States, according to the Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) of the United States Department of Agriculture.

Recalls are in effect for the following products, regardless of when they were manufactured [View Labels]:

“FISH FILLET WITH SPICY SOUP” Freeze Dried Technology Fish in 13.051 oz. (370g) plastic containers. There is no preservative in this product.

Freeze Dried Technology Fish “FISH FILLET WITH PICKLED SOUP” in 12.35 oz. (350g) plastic packets. There is no preservative in this product.
The products are not labeled with an establishment number or a USDA inspection mark. These commodities were distributed to retailers and wholesalers around the country.

During a routine FSIS surveillance activity of imported products, the problem was detected. Raw Siluriformes items from China are allowed to be imported into the United States, but not processed or ready-to-eat Siluriformes products.

There have been no documented reports of negative side effects from using these products. Anyone who is concerned about a reaction should get medical help.

Consumers may still be in possession of the product, according to the FSIS. These products should not be consumed by customers who have purchased them. These items should be thrown out or returned to the store where they were purchased.

FSIS performs recall effectiveness assessments on a regular basis to ensure that recalling companies notify their customers of the recall and take actions to ensure that the product is no longer available to consumers. The retail distribution list(s) will be posted on the FSIS website at www.fsis.usda.gov/recalls as soon as they become available.
