The latest poll results spell bad news for both the Conservative and Labour parties, as they face growing credibility issues, particularly among young voters.
There is a mounting disillusionment with the political establishment, which has led to a breakdown in traditional party loyalty.
What’s even more surprising is that this discontent has translated into a growing support for the Reform Party, defying the usual assumption that younger generations lean left-wing.
The Rise of Populism and Disillusionment with Political Elites
These findings may be unsettling, but they come as no surprise.
They align with research I’ve conducted on the rise of populism, not just in Britain, but across the West.
What we’re witnessing is a direct result of the failure of our ruling elites, which has created a widespread sense of betrayal, especially among the youth.
Many young people now feel abandoned by the Conservatives and Labour, who they perceive as more focused on propping up the wealthy and the property-rich Baby Boomers than addressing the real issues that affect younger generations.
The Struggles of Young Britons: Debt, Housing, and Job Competition
The reality for young Britons is harsh.
Many are burdened with student debt, unable to afford homes due to skyrocketing property prices, and struggling to find good-paying jobs in a sluggish, heavily taxed economy.
The situation has become so dire that it has contributed to the rise of political movements that challenge the status quo.
The Impact of Mismanagement and the Rise of Reform
Last week, during my appearance on BBC Question Time, I expressed my frustration with the government’s mishandling of immigration, which has not only stretched our public services but also weakened national unity.
These failures have led to a fractured society, plagued by sectarian politics, violence, and widespread misogyny.
Yet, young people often feel silenced when it comes to addressing these issues.
Instead of being encouraged to discuss the complexities of modern society, they’ve been bombarded with ideas like ‘white privilege’ and ‘toxic masculinity,’ which only deepen the sense of division.
A Backlash Against the ‘Woke Agenda’ and Support for Reform
As younger generations mature, many begin to see things more clearly.
The rise of the Reform Party, much like the emergence of Donald Trump in the U.S., can be viewed as a strong backlash against the so-called ‘woke’ agenda.
Just last Friday, U.S. Vice President JD Vance made waves with his criticism of Britain and Europe’s failure to defend “fundamental values.”
His comments were controversial, but they struck a chord with many young Reform supporters, who share his frustration.
Both the Conservatives and Labour are increasingly out of touch with the needs and aspirations of today’s youth, and it’s no surprise that a new wave of political support is forming.
