It was another bleak afternoon for Wolves fans on Saturday as their team fell to a heavy 3-0 defeat at Fulham, leaving Vitor Pereira’s position as head coach under intense scrutiny.
The result extended Wolves’ winless run to 10 games at the start of the season, leaving them eight points adrift at the bottom of the Premier League table.
The loss, which Pereira described as the “worst” of his managerial tenure at Molineux, came courtesy of goals from Ryan Sessegnon and Harry Wilson, plus an own-goal from Yerson Mosquera.
Wolves also suffered the setback of Emmanuel Agbadou being sent off 10 minutes before half-time, further complicating an already grim outing.
Pereira Questions Player Fitness and Performance
After the match, Pereira did not mince words about the state of his squad, hinting at concerns over both their mental and physical readiness.
“Tactically, technically, physically, we weren’t good enough. I don’t know why,” Pereira said.
“We all need to take responsibility for this. We were not in the right physical condition to face Fulham.
Tactically we made mistakes, and technically we were not at the best level.”
The Portuguese manager also hinted at the need for deeper conversations with his squad.
“I would like to understand what the players felt on the pitch, and I must speak with them.
We need to have a conversation at the next training session and I will try to work out what was missing here.
I am not proud at the end of the game. We know we can and must play better.”
Players Voice Frustration and Accountability
Goalkeeper Sam Johnstone was equally candid, delivering a stark message to his teammates. “It’s just not good enough and we need to do better.
We should be embarrassed. They might not want to hear it, but we apologise to the fans,” Johnstone said.
He continued, reflecting on the chaotic nature of the match: “Pretty much everything went wrong.
We went down to 10 early, we conceded early. It’s difficult to find words. There are a lot of emotions. It’s very difficult.”
Fulham Celebrate a Vital Home Win
On the other side, Fulham boss Marco Silva was full of praise for his side, highlighting the importance of the victory at Craven Cottage.
“It was a very important one for us, back home where we have been very strong,” Silva said.
For Wolves, the focus now shifts to regaining form, fitness, and confidence, as the Premier League season continues to slip further out of reach for the struggling side.
