Widow Emilia Perry Poignantly Recalls 25-Year Love Story with Surfing Icon Tamayo Perry, Lost in Tragic Oahu Shark Attack

Emilia Perry, widow of Tamayo Perry, recently spoke out about her husband’s tragic passing in a shark attack off Hawaii.

In a tearful interview on Good Morning America, she reflected on their 25 years together, likening it to the best vacation of her life now sadly cut short.

“It was like I went on the best 25-year vacation of my life with him.

And now it’s over.

Now I got to come back to reality,” Emilia shared, her voice heavy with emotion.

She described Tamayo not just as a talented actor and surfer but as a man of profound faith, taken too soon.

Tamayo Perry, renowned for his surfing skills and roles in films like Pirates of the Caribbean, tragically lost his life in a shark attack while surfing at Mālaekahana Beach on Oahu’s North Shore.

Despite his fame, those closest to him knew him as a humble local boy turned legendary waterman.

“He started surfing at the age of 12, borrowing boards because he had no sponsors,” his friend Jesse King recalled on GMA.

“He knew these waters like the back of his hand.”

Beyond the big screen, Tamayo and Emilia ran the Oahu Surfing Experience, where they shared their passion for the ocean with others.

Emilia, herself a former professional bodyboarder, spoke fondly of their life together and the deep bond they shared over their love for surfing.

“Tamayo’s personality was infectious,” said Honolulu Ocean Safety Acting Chief Kurt Lager.

“He was a lifeguard loved by all.”

Reflections from Honolulu

Honolulu Mayor Rick Blangiardi described Tamayo’s death as “a tragic loss,” highlighting his status as a beloved figure in the local community.

The incident marks a somber reminder of the dangers faced in Hawaii’s waters, where fatal shark encounters, though rare, resonate deeply.

In summary, Emilia Perry’s heartfelt tribute and the community’s outpouring of support underscore Tamayo Perry’s enduring legacy as both a skilled surfer and a cherished friend.

His memory lives on through the lives he touched and the ocean he loved.
