The United States has carried out military strikes against targets inside Iran after an Iranian drone attack damaged a commercial cargo vessel traveling through the Strait of Hormuz.
The operation, conducted on June 26 by U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM), was described as a direct response to what American officials called an unprovoked assault on international shipping.
According to the U.S. military, the strikes targeted facilities believed to be used for storing Iranian missiles and drones, as well as coastal radar installations that support military operations along the strategically important waterway.
Commercial Vessel Targeted During Transit
The latest escalation follows an attack on June 25 involving the M/V Ever Lovely, a Singapore-flagged cargo ship that was sailing along the Omani coastline while leaving the Strait of Hormuz.
U.S. officials said the vessel was struck by a one-way attack drone launched by Iranian forces during its voyage.
The incident marked another serious disruption in one of the world’s busiest maritime trade routes, raising concerns about the safety of civilian shipping passing through the region.
U.S. Says Attack Violated Existing Ceasefire
American officials condemned the drone strike, arguing that Iran’s actions breached the ceasefire agreement that had been in place.
The United States also accused Tehran of undermining international maritime security by targeting a civilian commercial vessel instead of respecting commitments intended to reduce regional tensions.
Officials stressed that attacks against merchant shipping threaten not only individual vessels but also the broader stability of global trade, as the Strait of Hormuz serves as a critical corridor for energy supplies and international commerce.
CENTCOM Continues Security Operations in the Region
Following the retaliatory strikes, CENTCOM confirmed that U.S. forces remain actively deployed in the area to support commercial shipping.
Military personnel continue coordinating safe passage for vessels navigating the Strait of Hormuz while maintaining a heightened state of readiness.
The U.S. military said its presence is intended to deter further attacks, protect freedom of navigation, and help ensure that all parties comply with the terms of the existing agreement governing regional security.

Despite the latest exchange, American officials emphasized that operations in the region will continue with a focus on safeguarding international shipping lanes.
