The City of Tshwane has announced a scheduled power shutdown that will affect various areas in the city.
The disruption is part of ongoing work to improve control systems in the area.
Power Outage Details
The planned shutdown will take place on Wednesday, 29 January 2025, from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM, lasting a total of seven hours.
Affected areas include Blocks KK, V, T, R, S, SS, X, X Buffer, P, W, and Y. The city has warned residents to treat all electricity supply points as live at all times during the shutdown.
In their statement, the city apologised for any inconvenience caused by the power interruption, acknowledging the temporary disruption while the work is carried out.
Water Outage in Garsfontein Due to Burst Pipe
Meanwhile, residents in parts of Garsfontein are experiencing a water outage due to a burst asbestos pipe.
The affected areas include Garsfontein Ext 3, 6, 8, and 10.
A water tanker has been deployed to supply water to the affected areas while repairs are made.
Eskom Celebrates 300 Days Without Load Shedding
On a more positive note, Eskom has reached a major milestone with 300 days without load shedding as of Tuesday, 21 January 2025.
This achievement, the first since 2018, comes after significant efforts to reduce unplanned outages and improve energy availability.
Eskom’s Group Executive for Generation, Bheki Nxumalo, praised the company’s 40,000 employees for their hard work in reaching this milestone.
He noted that the energy availability factor has increased by about 7%, and the savings from reduced diesel usage amount to R16.42 billion.
These savings are being reinvested into the business to drive efficiencies and pave the way for long-term sustainability.
Cable Theft Causes Power Outages in Tshwane
In other news, Tshwane has experienced power outages in certain areas due to cable theft.
On Wednesday, 15 January 2025, several areas in the east of Tshwane were left without electricity after thieves stole cables from a tunnel under the N1 highway.
Tshwane Mayor Nasiphi Moya visited the site and was briefed by emergency teams and regional operations officials about the ongoing efforts to replace the stolen cables and restore power.
