TS Galaxy, a prominent club in the Betway Premier Soccer League, has just secured the signing of Ivorian goalkeeper Ira Tapé on a two-year contract.
This move comes as a strategic replacement for Fiacre Ntwari, who has recently joined Kaizer Chiefs.
At 26 years old, Tapé is making his way to the Rockets from the Ethiopian Premier League, where he played for Hadiya Hossana last season.
Prior to that, he was with Bahir Dar Kenema, marking a total of two years in Ethiopian football.
Standing tall at 1.92 meters, Tapé brings a commanding presence to the goalpost.
Tapé’s career includes significant international experience.
He has represented Ivory Coast at various levels, including being part of the squad for the African Cup of Nations held in Cameroon.
He made his senior debut at 22 under coach Ibrahima Kamara. Additionally, Tapé competed in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, which were held in July 2021.
Known for his modern goalkeeping techniques, he excels as a sweeper-keeper with exceptional composure and distribution skills. His background includes training at the prestigious Aspire Academy in Qatar and a stint with FC San Pedro in his home country.
Competing for the Spot
TS Galaxy’s head coach, Sead Ramovic, who himself has a background as a goalkeeper, has expressed confidence in Tapé’s abilities.
He has already featured in the Mpumalanga Premier’s International Cup, and Ramovic believes Tapé could effectively fill the gap left by Ntwari. The Ivorian is set to compete with Wensten van der Linde for the starting goalkeeper role.
Tapé’s experience and skills are expected to foster healthy competition and strengthen the team’s chances for the upcoming season.
