The Deputy Prime Minister, Lord Chancellor and Secretary of State for Justice has approved an extension to Sir Nicholas Green’s tenure as the Chair of the Law Commission

Sir Nicholas Green’s term as Chair of the Law Commission has been extended by the Rt Hon Dominic Raab MP, Deputy Prime Minister, Lord Chancellor, and Secretary of State for Justice, from August 1, 2022, to a date three months after the announcement of the selection of his successor.

The Law Commission Act of 1965 established the Commission with the mandate to continuously evaluate English and Welsh law with a view to its methodical development and improvement.

The Lord Chancellor appoints the Chair and the other commissioners.

The Law Commission’s mandate is to encourage the modernization, accessibility, and clarity of the law.

The projects of the Commission help the general people, businesses, or other organizations that are impacted by outdated, convoluted, and outdated laws.

On August 1st, 2018, Sir Nicholas was chosen as the next Chair.

Sir Nicholas is a former professor who taught at the Universities of Southampton and London.

He was admitted to the bar in 1986, and in 1998, he was named Queen’s Counsel.

He was appointed a judge of the Queen’s Bench Division of the High Court in 2013.

Sir Nicholas was appointed a Lord Justice of Appeal in October 2018. Prior to this, Sir Nicholas presided over both the Bar Council and the Advocacy Training Council.

He said he was not involved in politics.
