Thabo Cele Joins Kaizer Chiefs
After much anticipation, Kaizer Chiefs have officially welcomed Thabo Cele into their squad. The 28-year-old midfielder made his debut for the club last week during the highly anticipated Soweto Derby. This marked the end of his time at Russian club FC Fakel Voronezh, where he left as a free agent to pursue a new chapter in South Africa.
A New Name for Cele?
On the same day, SuperSport TV commentator Reggie Ndlovu gave Thabo Cele an intriguing new title. Instead of calling him by his name, Ndlovu referred to Cele as “Induna Yendawo” — which translates to “The Local Chief.” This playful nickname quickly caught the attention of fans and added to the excitement around Cele’s debut.
Kaizer Chiefs’ Message to Morocco
While the focus has been on the pitch, Kaizer Chiefs have also extended their congratulations to Morocco. Last week, during the AFCON 2025 draw, it was announced that the Kingdom of Morocco would host the headquarters of the African Club Association (ACA). The decision was made official through a memorandum of understanding between the Royal Moroccan Football Association and ACA president Hersi Said.
Jessica Motaung, the Director of Marketing for Kaizer Chiefs, expressed her support for the move, stating, “We believe that establishing the ACA headquarters in Morocco is a great decision. It will strengthen the ACA’s presence in Africa and serve as a hub for the development of club football across the continent.”
She also highlighted how this decision ties into Morocco’s preparations for the 2030 FIFA World Cup, with hopes that the partnership will have a lasting positive impact on African football.
