Spanish Police Launch Investigation After British Man Dies Mysteriously in Javea on Costa Blanca

Authorities in Spain have launched an investigation after the body of a British man was discovered in a popular Costa Blanca resort.

The 50-year-old was found in the early hours of Sunday morning in the town of Javea, situated north of the bustling tourist hub of Benidorm.

Discovery of the Body

Police were alerted shortly before 7:45am when a 999-style emergency call was made to a regional coordination center.

The man’s body was located between two parked vehicles in the street, prompting an immediate cordon to allow forensic teams to examine the scene.

The Civil Guard confirmed that there were no obvious signs of violence, though authorities are awaiting the results of an autopsy before reaching any conclusions.

As is common practice in Spain, the findings of the post-mortem are not expected to be made public.

Residency and Consular Notification

It remains unclear whether the man was a local resident of Javea or visiting the area on holiday.

Officials from the British consulate have reportedly been informed, offering support as the investigation continues.

A spokesperson for the Civil Guard in Alicante, which covers Javea, confirmed:

“At around 7:45am this morning, through a regional emergency response coordination centre, a report was received regarding the discovery of a possible deceased person on a street in the municipality of Javea.

Officers dispatched to the scene confirmed the death of a 50-year-old British man.

The Territorial Team of the Judicial Police of Calpe has taken charge of the investigation to clarify the circumstances of the incident.”

Past Incidents in Javea

The resort town has previously been the scene of tragic incidents involving British nationals.

In May 2023, a British woman tragically died after collapsing while swimming at the popular Arenal beach.

Witnesses reported she went into the shallow water near the shoreline before relatives pulled her out and emergency services were called.

While Javea is generally a peaceful and scenic destination for tourists, the recent death highlights the continued importance of vigilance and thorough investigation when sudden incidents occur.
