In the ever-evolving world of football administration, comebacks are often as exciting as new appointments.
One such potential return is that of Tebogo Motlanthe to the South African Football Association (SAFA).
After stepping down from his CEO role in May 2023, Motlanthe might be making his way back to the football mother body.
Since his departure, Motlanthe hasn’t been far from the football scene.
He has been offering his expertise to SAFA on a consultancy basis, most notably handling legal matters at the ABC Motsepe League national playoffs in Upington.
He also attended SAFA’s annual congress in April.
Adding to his recent roles, Motlanthe was reportedly appointed CEO of the newly promoted Motsepe Foundation Championship club, Kruger United.
However, this appointment is yet to be officially confirmed by the club.
Motlanthe’s exit from SAFA led to the appointment of Lydia Monyepao as the new CEO.
Since taking over, Monyepao has been leading the association.
Meanwhile, there were whispers about Motlanthe possibly taking on a role at the Premier Soccer League (PSL), but nothing materialized from those discussions.
Danny Jordaan on Motlanthe’s Return
In an exclusive chat with FARPost, SAFA President Danny Jordaan hinted at the possibility of Motlanthe rejoining SAFA.’ “He’s a legal advisor and he helped with the ABC Motsepe League National Playoffs.
We are happy to have him,” Jordaan mentioned.
He further praised Motlanthe’s contributions to SAFA, expressing optimism about his future involvement.
“He’s made a great contribution to SAFA, and he will continue to contribute.
We are very happy with him. We will talk to him about that in the future,” Jordaan added.
Negotiations and Possible New Role
Recent developments suggest that negotiations between Motlanthe and SAFA are progressing well.
A deal could be finalized as early as next week, potentially bringing Motlanthe back to SAFA as the Chief Operations Officer (COO).
This would mark his return to the association where he had previously served as the CEO for two years.
Conclusion
As the football community watches closely, the possible return of Tebogo Motlanthe to SAFA could bring renewed vigor and experience to the organization.
