…By Dorcas Funmi for TDPel Media. The new Governor of Sokoto State, Dr Ahmed Aliyu Sokoto, has extended an invitation to the opposition in the state, urging them to join hands with him in the developmental efforts of the state.
As a prominent member of the All Progressive Congress (APC), Governor Sokoto made this call during his inaugural speech on Monday.
He also requested the prayers of the people for a successful tenure.
9-Point Agenda Focuses on Security, Health, and Poverty Eradication
Governor Sokoto outlined a comprehensive 9-point agenda for his government.
The top priorities mentioned were security, health, and poverty eradication.
He assured the people of Sokoto State that he would not disappoint them and expressed his determination to meet their expectations.
Furthermore, he pledged to review some of the policies implemented by the previous administration.
Symbolic Handing Over of Authority Absent, Oaths Administered by Chief Judge
Interestingly, the former governor of Sokoto State, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, was not present at the ceremony to perform the symbolic handing over of instruments of authority.
However, Governor Sokoto and his deputy were administered their oaths by the state’s chief judge, Justice Muhammad Sa’idu Sifawa.
Notably, no official from the new government was in attendance at the event.
Dignitaries Present at the Ceremony
Several dignitaries attended the inauguration ceremony, including Muhammad Maigari Dingyadi, the immediate past Minister of Police Affairs, and Senator Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko, the leader of the APC in Sokoto State.
Former deputy governors Abdullahi Chiso Dattijo and Mukhtari Shagari were also in attendance.
The event was graced by the presence of the Sultan of Sokoto, Muhammadu Sa’ad Abubakar, former ambassadors from the state, leaders of the APC, federal and state lawmakers, and members of the diplomatic corps, among others.
