The devastating wildfires that swept through Los Angeles earlier this year didn’t spare anyone—even Hollywood legends.
Sir Anthony Hopkins, 87, has reportedly put his California estate on the market for £5.1 million ($6.4 million) after the property was ravaged by flames.
The two adjoining plots, originally purchased separately in 2018 and 2019 for a combined $12.6 million (£10 million), now bear the scars of the wildfire that tore through the region.
Staying Grounded Amid Heartbreak
Despite the heartbreaking loss of his home, the Oscar-winning actor remains remarkably grounded.
Speaking to The Mirror, Hopkins reflected on the bigger picture, saying, “As we all struggle to heal from the devastation of these fires, it’s important we remember that the only thing we take with us is the love we give.”
His words serve as a reminder of resilience in the face of disaster.
A History of Close Calls
This isn’t Hopkins’ first brush with wildfire. In November 2018, his Malibu home narrowly escaped the Woolsey Fire, which destroyed his neighbour’s property.
Even earlier, in 2000, he lost his London home to a separate fire while he was in Los Angeles.
Wildfires, it seems, have been a recurring threat in his life—but Hopkins continues to persevere.
Wildfires Devastate Palisades and Celebrities
January’s wildfires claimed ten lives and forced thousands from their homes, leaving the Palisades neighbourhood in ruins.
Several celebrities were among those affected. Paris Hilton, 43, shared the heart-wrenching experience of watching her Malibu waterfront home burn on live television.
“Sitting with my family, watching the news, and seeing our home in Malibu burn to the ground on live TV is something no one should ever have to experience,” she wrote on X/Twitter, alongside footage showing the destruction.
Other Celebrity Losses
Anna Faris, 48, was also devastated when her $5 million mansion in Pacific Palisades was reduced to charred remains.
Purchased in 2019, her 4,000-square-foot home is now gone.
Meanwhile, Top Gun: Maverick star Miles Teller and his wife Keleigh lost their dream home, which they had purchased for $7.5 million in April 2023.
Keleigh shared emotional images on Instagram, including a striking photo of the blaze and a plea for evacuees to leave water out for pets.
Eugene Levy, 78, best known for American Pie and Schitt’s Creek, also saw his Pacific Palisades property destroyed.
Attempting to evacuate, Levy found himself stuck in gridlock as the flames approached.
He had purchased the property in 2006 for $3.9 million, a modest sum compared to today’s market, only to watch it succumb to the rapidly spreading Westside fire.
The Human Cost of Fire
These losses underline the indiscriminate power of wildfires, affecting people from all walks of life, including some of Hollywood’s most recognizable stars.
As communities rebuild and heal, stories like Hopkins’ remind us that homes may be lost, but resilience and human connection endure.
