Residents in parts of the North West should prepare for potentially disruptive weather on Wednesday, 30 September, with a Yellow Level 2 warning for severe thunderstorms in force across the central and eastern parts of the province.
The warning includes the possibility of heavy downpours, hail, damaging winds and frequent lightning as thunderstorms develop.
KZN to Remain Cloudy and Cool
KwaZulu-Natal is expected to experience a mostly cloudy and cool to cold day, with isolated showers and periods of rain.
Morning fog patches are forecast over parts of the interior, while coastal areas will also remain under cloudy conditions.
Winds along the coast are expected to start as light to moderate easterly to south-easterly winds. In the extreme south, they will strengthen to moderate to fresh north-easterlies before spreading towards Durban during the evening.
The province’s UVB sunburn index will be moderate.
Durban Faces Showers and a Cooler Day
Durban is expected to remain cloudy on Wednesday, with isolated showers and rain during the day.
Winds will initially be light to moderate from the south and south-east before changing to north-easterly in the evening.
Temperatures are expected to range between 16°C and 20°C, while the UVB sunburn index will be moderate.
Free State Could See Showers and Thunderstorms
The Free State will begin the day with cloudy conditions in the east before becoming partly cloudy elsewhere.
The province is expected to be windy, with temperatures ranging from cold to cool. Isolated to scattered showers and thundershowers are forecast across much of the province, although the south-eastern areas are expected to escape the wet weather.
Bloemfontein Forecast Brings Wind and Thunderstorms
Bloemfontein is expected to have partly cloudy and windy conditions, with isolated showers and thundershowers possible.
Temperatures will range from a chilly 8°C in the morning to a maximum of 21°C during the day.
North West Weather Could Turn Stormy
The North West is forecast to start Wednesday under cloudy, windy and cold to cool conditions.
The weather is expected to become partly cloudy later, with scattered showers and thundershowers developing.
The severe thunderstorm warning means residents in the affected areas should be alert to sudden heavy rain, hail, strong winds and lightning.
Mahikeng Set for a Wet and Windy Day
Mahikeng is expected to remain cloudy and windy, with scattered showers and thundershowers.
Temperatures are forecast to remain relatively low, ranging from a minimum of 13°C to a maximum of just 15°C.
