Russia’s Ozon marketplace app has been removed from Google Play, making it unavailable to users searching for the platform through Google’s Android app store.
A search for Ozon on Google Play no longer returns the company’s application, according to a TASS correspondent. The development affects not only the main marketplace app but also Ozon’s Ozon fresh and Ozon travel applications.
Company Says It Did Not Violate Google’s Rules
Ozon confirmed that its applications are no longer accessible through Google Play but rejected any suggestion that the removal was caused by a violation of the platform’s policies.
“Ozon did not violate any of Google Play’s rules,” the company’s press service said in a statement provided to TASS.
The company also emphasized that Ozon and its related services have not been placed under sanctions.
Ozon Apps Remain Available Elsewhere
Despite their disappearance from Google Play, Android users still have alternative ways to obtain the applications.
Ozon said its apps remain available through RuStore, AppGallery and Galaxy Store, allowing customers to continue accessing the marketplace and its other services.
The company operates Ozon as one of Russia’s largest online marketplaces, with the platform sometimes compared with Amazon because of its broad range of products and services.
iPhone Users Can Still Find the App
The removal currently appears to be limited to Google Play. Ozon remains available through Apple’s App Store, meaning users of iPhones and other Apple devices can continue downloading the application through the company’s official mobile marketplace.
Ozon has not indicated that its wider marketplace or services have been suspended.
Removal Raises Questions Over Google Play Availability
The disappearance of the applications comes despite Ozon’s assertion that it has not breached Google Play rules and that its services are not subject to sanctions.
The company did not provide an explanation for why the applications were removed from Google Play. For now, Android users affected by the change can access Ozon through alternative app stores, while Apple users continue to have access through the App Store.
