Russian forces have reportedly captured five settlements across three Ukrainian regions during a week of intensified military operations, while Moscow claims its troops inflicted more than 10,000 casualties on Ukrainian forces between October 3 and October 9, 2026.

The Russian Ministry of Defense announced the territorial gains in its latest weekly battlefield assessment, alongside claims of extensive strikes against Ukrainian military infrastructure, weapons depots, transportation networks and logistics facilities.

According to the ministry, Russian troops also intercepted thousands of Ukrainian drones and several cruise missiles while continuing offensive operations along multiple sections of the front line.

The battlefield figures and territorial claims were released by Russian authorities and have not been independently verified.

Russian Forces Report Territorial Gains in Kharkiv, Sumy and Zaporizhzhia

Russian military officials identified five settlements they said had come under Moscow’s control during the reporting period.

In the Kharkiv region, units belonging to Russia‘s Battlegroup North reportedly captured Annopolye and Novaya Kazachya, while another operation secured Kiyanitsa in the neighbouring Sumy region.

Further south, Battlegroup East claimed control of Samoilovka and Golubkovo in the Zaporizhzhia region following advances against Ukrainian defensive positions.

The ministry described the operations as part of continuing efforts to expand Russian-controlled territory and weaken Ukrainian defensive formations.

Moscow said the reported gains included settlements captured during the final days of the reporting period.

Moscow Claims Thousands of Ukrainian Troops Lost Across Six Frontline Sectors

The Russian Defense Ministry reported substantial Ukrainian personnel losses across the areas controlled by its six principal battlegroups.

Battlegroup Center accounted for the largest reported figure, with more than 3,415 Ukrainian casualties during the week.

The ministry provided the following breakdown of claimed Ukrainian personnel losses:

Russian formation Reported Ukrainian casualties
Battlegroup Center More than 3,415
Battlegroup North More than 1,850
Battlegroup East More than 1,845
Battlegroup West More than 1,565
Battlegroup South More than 1,215
Battlegroup Dnepr Approximately 245

Together, the reported figures amount to more than 10,000 Ukrainian personnel losses over the seven-day period.

The figures represent Russian military claims and do not distinguish consistently between soldiers killed, wounded or otherwise removed from combat.

No independent battlefield assessment confirming the totals was provided.

Russian Military Reports Eight Major Strikes on Ukrainian Infrastructure

Beyond the ground fighting, Russia reported conducting eight major rounds of attacks against Ukrainian military-related facilities during the week.

The operations reportedly consisted of one large-scale strike and seven combined attacks involving precision-guided weapons and unmanned aerial vehicles.

Moscow said the targeted facilities included military-industrial enterprises, communications centers, transport infrastructure, energy installations, airfields and locations associated with drone production and storage.

Ammunition warehouses, fuel depots and temporary military deployment sites were also among the reported targets.

The ministry claimed that some Ukrainian port facilities used for receiving and distributing military supplies had been damaged.

Russian officials further alleged that 14 dry cargo vessels and one tanker involved in transporting Western military equipment, fuel and other supplies for Ukrainian forces were hit.

The extent of the reported damage and the circumstances surrounding the vessel strikes could not be independently established.

Russian Troops Claim Encirclement Successes in Northeastern Kharkiv

One of the most significant developments described in the Russian report concerned continuing operations against Ukrainian formations allegedly surrounded in northeastern Kharkiv.

Battlegroup North claimed it had prevented Ukrainian troops from breaking through Russian positions while expanding the territory under its control.

According to the ministry, more than 275 Ukrainian personnel were killed in the encircled area during the reporting week.

Russia also claimed the destruction of three armored combat vehicles, two motor vehicles and three ground robotic platforms in the same sector.

Since the reported encirclement began, Moscow says its forces have taken control of approximately 414 square kilometers and 20 settlements.

The ministry further claimed that more than 1,360 Ukrainian troops had been eliminated during the broader operation, alongside dozens of armored vehicles and other military assets.

These figures have not been independently confirmed, and the status of the alleged encirclement remains based on Moscow’s account.

Russian Forces Continue Offensive Operations Around Dobropillia

In the Donetsk region, Russian military officials reported further advances around Dobropillia, where Battlegroup Center is conducting offensive operations.

The ministry said units of Russia’s 51st Army were advancing from the western and eastern parts of the town in an attempt to strengthen their positions.

Russian forces also claimed to have prevented Ukrainian troops from escaping an alleged encirclement or rotating personnel into the area.

According to Moscow, more than 520 Ukrainian personnel have been killed since the reported encirclement began.

An armored combat vehicle and six pickup trucks were also reportedly destroyed.

The Russian account did not establish the full extent of territorial control within Dobropillia, and independent confirmation of the claimed battlefield developments was unavailable.

Russian Air Defenses Claim Destruction of 7,389 Ukrainian Drones

Russia also reported extensive air defense activity during the week, claiming the interception and destruction of thousands of Ukrainian aerial weapons.

The Defense Ministry said Russian air defense systems shot down 7,389 fixed-wing unmanned aerial vehicles between October 3 and October 9.

It also claimed the interception of 17 Flamingo long-range cruise missiles, 31 guided aerial bombs and nine rockets launched from American-made HIMARS systems.

The reported figures suggest a high level of aerial activity during the period, although the ministry did not provide independent evidence establishing the number of weapons successfully intercepted.

The claims come amid the increasing use of drones and long-range weapons by both countries to target military and infrastructure facilities.

Russian Military Reports Extensive Equipment Losses Across Frontline Positions

Russian military officials also provided detailed figures concerning Ukrainian equipment allegedly destroyed during the reporting period.

Battlegroup North claimed the destruction of 15 armored combat vehicles, 134 motor vehicles and six artillery pieces.

Battlegroup West reported 13 armored vehicles, 93 motor vehicles, nine artillery systems and a US-made HIMARS multiple rocket launcher destroyed.

In the southern sector, Russian forces claimed to have eliminated 10 armored combat vehicles, 162 motor vehicles and nine artillery pieces.

Battlegroup Center reported 23 armored vehicles and 69 motor vehicles destroyed, while Battlegroup East listed 14 armored vehicles, 67 motor vehicles and seven artillery guns.

Battlegroup Dnepr separately claimed the destruction of three armored combat vehicles, 127 motor vehicles and two artillery pieces.

Several Russian formations also reported targeting Ukrainian electronic warfare systems and counterbattery radar installations.

Moscow Releases Updated Military Destruction Figures Since Beginning of War

The Russian Defense Ministry concluded its weekly assessment with cumulative figures for Ukrainian military equipment it claims to have destroyed since the beginning of the full-scale invasion in February 2022.

According to Moscow, the totals include 674 combat aircraft, 284 helicopters and 257,540 unmanned aerial vehicles.

The ministry also claimed the destruction of 672 surface-to-air missile systems, 31,174 tanks and other armored combat vehicles, and 1,786 multiple rocket launchers.

Other reported totals included 36,670 field artillery guns and mortars, alongside 74,063 specialized military motor vehicles.

These cumulative statistics are Russian government claims and have not been independently verified.

Fighting Continues as Russia Reports Gains Across Multiple Ukrainian Regions

The latest Russian military assessment portrays a week of extensive ground combat, long-range strikes and aerial engagements across several regions of Ukraine.

Moscow’s reported capture of five settlements, combined with its claims of substantial Ukrainian personnel and equipment losses, reflects its stated objective of maintaining pressure along multiple frontline sectors.

However, the actual scale of the reported advances and casualties remains uncertain without independent confirmation or corresponding Ukrainian battlefield assessments.

As the war continues, both countries remain engaged in operations involving ground offensives, drone attacks, missile strikes and efforts to disrupt each other’s military logistics and infrastructure.
