He’s known for his fierce tackles and no-nonsense punditry, but Roy Keane reminded everyone this week that beneath his tough exterior lies a proud dad with a big heart.
The Manchester United legend, often guarded about his private life, gave fans a rare peek into his family world when he shared a photo celebrating his son Aidan’s wedding.
A Proud Moment for the Keane Family
Keane, dressed sharply in a black dinner jacket, stood beside his wife Theresa Doyle and the happy couple in the sweet photo posted to social media.
“Beautiful day celebrating my son and his wife,” he captioned the image — a rare and heartwarming post from a man who usually keeps his personal life under wraps.
The former Republic of Ireland captain has been married to Theresa for nearly 28 years, and together they share five children — Shannon, Caragh, Aidan, Leah, and Alanna.
From Awkward First Date to Decades of Marriage
While Keane’s football career was filled with triumphs — seven Premier League titles, four FA Cups, and a Champions League trophy — his first date with Theresa didn’t go quite as smoothly.
The pair first met at a Nottingham nightclub back in 1992, but as Keane once told The Tommy Tiernan Show, things didn’t exactly get off to a flying start.
He recalled picking her up for a drive but having no solid plan for the evening.
When he suggested either the cinema or a few drinks, she wasn’t impressed.
“She got out and I said, ‘Might see you next week?’ and she said, ‘I don’t think so,’ and slammed the door,” he laughed.
“That was my first date. And we’re still married.”
Keane Embraces Grandfather Life
Fast forward to today, and Keane isn’t just a dad — he’s a proud grandfather too.
In April, he celebrated becoming a granddad for the third time, posting a light-hearted caption that played on one of his famous punditry quips: “My new grandson, big baby.”
The former midfielder has also shown his playful side on social media before, dressing up as Paw Patrol’s Chase for a grandchild’s party and joking about their shared smiles.
And the Keane family is set to grow again soon — daughter Leah and her partner, Southampton defender Taylor Harwood-Bellis, announced in August that they’re expecting their first child in 2026.
When Football Meets Family
Leah’s relationship with Harwood-Bellis has drawn plenty of attention — especially when the young defender scored his first international goal for England against none other than the Republic of Ireland.
The moment was understandably awkward for Keane, who was on ITV pundit duty that night.
“Bittersweet for me, this,” he joked afterward when asked about the goal.
When host Mark Pougatch reminded him that Harwood-Bellis was his future son-in-law, Keane deadpanned: “It’s not done and dusted yet!”
A Romantic Proposal on the Amalfi Coast
Just days after that goal, Harwood-Bellis made things official by proposing to Leah on a yacht off the stunning Amalfi Coast in Italy.
The couple, who had kept their relationship private for years, shared the happy moment on Instagram.
“I can’t wait to marry you,” Leah wrote alongside a carousel of dreamy engagement photos from Positano.
Although fans only recently learned of their romance, it’s believed they’ve been together for around six years — with one of their earliest photos together dating back to 2019.
Supporting His Family Through the Highs and Lows
Keane may be famous for his fiery personality, but when it comes to his family, he’s a pillar of support.
Earlier this month, his daughter Caragh opened up about her battle with lupus, a chronic autoimmune disease that left her bedridden for months.
Turning her struggle into strength, she launched Superkeen, a gut-friendly cereal brand that has since made its way to national supermarkets.
Speaking about her father’s influence, Caragh described him as “one of the funniest and most supportive people” she knows.
“People always say he’s an enigma, but as a dad, he’s hilarious and full of great advice,” she said.
“He’s got this very Irish way of telling you to let go of things — that someone’s always looking out for you. That’s been really helpful when I’ve been at my lowest.”
The Routine of a Family Man
Despite his sharp wit and fierce football persona, Caragh revealed that Keane is deeply rooted in his routines — and the family knows it.
“He’s the most supportive person,” she said, “but if his routine is off-kilter, we all know about it!”
A Different Kind of Roy Keane
From his early football dominance to his proud granddad moments, Roy Keane has shown there’s much more to him than the stern-faced pundit fans see on TV.
Behind closed doors, he’s a devoted husband, a caring dad, and now a doting grandfather who knows how to laugh at himself — even when life throws him the unexpected.
